Elizabeth - Baby Flap Information.23 viewsOk, here's what a regular membrane looks like. It's just a white line that hugs the side of the sugar glider so it's not in the way. Only when the sugar glider spreads his arms and legs does this stretch out or unfold, so that it can glide in the air.DarkFlameFeb 19, 2006

Elizabeth - Baby Flap, Again.21 viewsThis picture shows just how thin the skin is. It's very thin. It's not stretchy as people think, it just folds up so that it's not in the way when they are climbing and playing around. Glider's have to be careful because it's very easy to tear this and it can cause them to bleed to death.DarkFlameFeb 19, 2006

Elizabeth - Baby Flap.24 viewsThis is a picture of Elizabeth's baby. I decided to use her as an example of what people call the 'wings' of a sugar glider. Do you see how far it can stretch out? It's connected from wrist to ankle and then when they 'take flight' the wind catches underneith of their flaps and this is what holds them in the air. They glide, they don't 'fly'.DarkFlameFeb 19, 2006
