Title: Hollywood CA - Adopt us so we dont end up at PETCO - 14 two week old pups
Post by: curly555 on July 03, 2008, 06:32:59 PM
Hi All,
Thought I would post again.  I got a very sweet albino female from PETCO who turned out to be pregnant.  She gave birth to 14 very healthy pups.  I cant keep them.  I'm moving from LA to new york in the fall and trying to move cross country into a tiny rental with 17 rats is not feasable.  I called PETCO and they said they will take the babies at 4 weeks.  This is the last thing I want to do, so please take them in and/or advertise this to anyone you think might be willing to take them.

I have pictures of them and their mom posted under my photo album.  The babies are 15 days old today (July 3rd).
Please rescue a sweet ratty.  Thanks!
Julie

I'm in northern Cali and also a bit overcrowded so I can't help...but don't take them to Petco, please.  Look for rescue groups in your area.  Wee Companions is in San Diego, they're full at the moment, but maybe they can point you in the right direction.  If all else fails, take them to the SPCA.  Yes, they'll charge you to surrender and ask for a donation for their upkeep, but you can guarantee they won't end up as snake food, which is what is likely to happen at Petco.

Strange Duck, thanks for your input!  Yes, I know they will end up on the chopping block if they go to Petco and I certainly dont want that.  I just emailed the spca, thank you for the suggestion.  Its really unfortunate.  I have been socializing them in the hopes that they will be more adoptable, but so far no one has contacted me about wanting them.  I have this horrible image of them happily hoping into the hands of a snake owner thinking they are about to be pet or played with.
I'd be more then happy to donate some money for their care........somebody?  ....anybody? ???

Hey great news!  The spca directed me to Foreverhome Pet Rescue who in addition to dogs and cats also assist with the adoptions of exotic pets.  They offered to include my ratty babies in their saturday adoption events at the porter ranch petco where they will supervise potential adoptions and varify that they are going to good homes.

Anyhow, thank you for your advise!  Hopefully, in a few weeks I can report that they are all adopted out!

I live in Kern County and can offer homes to your pups if you cannot adopt them out; don't want them to end up at a pet store as feeders. I currently have two intact boys living together, but no other cages.

If you need help just let me know, I'm sure we can work something out:)

That is awfully nice of you!!!  I counted at some point but forgot the numbers.....I think there are 5 boys, I'll double check (it was a pretty massive litter!!!).  If I have girls left over and you are willing to take them, I can definitely arrange for the girls to come with their own cage :).  I'm going to start taking them to the saturday adoption event starting in 1-2 weeks.  If it doesnt go well, how many would you be willing to take?
Feel free to contact me on my cell 917 494 5094
Thanks,
