What are the odds of a budgie and a cockatiel sharing a cage without terrorizing one another?

Not all that high.  Those cute little budgies usually terrorize cockatiels and can cause some serious injuries.

Seporate cages for each species is much better.  My cockatiel that is at my mom's house has a pet parakeet, but they each have there own cage.  My mom tried putting them together once and my cockatiel got some injuries.

In my vet's opinion, it *can* work out, but doesn't always. Starting them off together when they're both young helps. The budgie will tend to be the one who beats up the cockatiel, so a young budgie can be introduced to an older 'tiel (rather than the other way around). If they don't get along as cagemates, they should be perfectly happy to have each other as neighbors.

I forgot I had this picture on my computer.  These are the 3 birds I had in high school.  Buddy is the cockatiel, he's still alive and at my parent's house.  He's about 17 years old now!  The blue parakeet also lives with my parents and is about 7 years old.  He's Buddy's pet, lives in the cage next to him.  Petey died my junior year of high school.  They did get along on neutral territory outside of the cage, but you need to be careful!

What a cute pic! And wow--17 years!

I suppose yet another cage is needed then. Stacking these cages on the wall is becoming like a complicated game of Tetris!  Yellow Cute Laugh
