Loving every day with my 7 ratlings

« on: July 08, 2008, 11:36:17 PM »

I had to take my baby girl Boo Boo to the vet today.  I was sitting in my recliner, and I heard a scratching from behind me, when I turned around to look, Boo kitty was trying to stand up but her back legs weren't functioning.   Worry  I went over to her and she was breathing very heavy with her mouth wide open.  She didn't want me near her, she dragged herself away.  I called the vet immediately and made an appointment.  I only had to wait an hour.  I got her to the vet and by then, she was walking alright again.  Strange...I told the vet what happened and he did some blood work and checked a few things.  During her last check up, they said her thyroid levels were a little bit elevated...the vet said that it is most likely bad enough for meds now and that what happened was that her heart rate was so high, that her body was trying to pump her blood to keep up with it, but couldn't...so the supply to her hind legs got cut off.  I have to pick up her meds tomorrow, she's going to be on thyroid pills for the rest of her life now.   Puppy Dog Eyes:  She is an AMAZING kitty.  I got her from a shelter in Dover, De in 1998.  She was only 4 weeks old and had been found on the street crying.  I adopted her and nursed her to health.  We've been attached ever since.   icon_cat

So the REAL trouble started when I got home.  I have 3 other cats, 2 female, 1 male.  I let Boo out of the carrier, and immediately our male cat, Buddy, started growling and hissing at her.  I'm talking some heavy duty growling.  He even attacked her!!!  I didn't know why, so I looked up online to see what I could find.  I found a lot of things that said that Boo had picked up scents from the vet office, and that Buddy probably didn't recognize her anymore.  Everyone recommended bathing, but with Boo's heart racing until I can get her meds tomorrow, I didn't want to stress her.  So I got a washcloth and rubbed it all over Buddy, then on Boo, then back to Bud and back to Boo....etc.  I did that about 6 times to mix the smells.  Bud went and hid, and I placed the washcloth in front of him.  I haven't heard any fighting as of yet...it's weird though, I mean, they've all gone to and from the vet several times before, but this is the only time this has happened.  Weird.

That happened when my kittens came home from their spays.  They'd been before...for shots and whatnot, and my other other cats have been to the same office and we've never had any issues.  It weirded us out, too.  But all was back to normal within a few days.
