I thought I would link some good articles on feline nutrition.

This article is about how to choose a good commerical cat food
http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=004

This link is why canned food is better than dry for cats
http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=whycatsneedcannedfood

These 2 are general feline nutrtion articles.  Both of them are a little lengthy but good

Thanks for the links, they are very informative!

A good book to pick up about commercial pet food is Food Pets Die For by Ann N. Martin

Thanks to this book, I have opened my eyes and now my cats only get Wellness and homecooked meals!

My cats currently get a mix of wet, dry, and raw.

I figure that means I got all my bases covered Smiley at least until I get a meat grinder. When I do, they're going totally raw man. Totally Wink

Raw?
I've never heard of feeding a house cat raw food before. . .

The only reason my cats aren't totally fed raw now is because I haven't got a grinder. I can't put large chunks of fish or meat in the bowl because they will pull them out and then hide them around the house, trying to keep them from the other cats. And in my small apartment, there really is no feasible way to enclose them during meal times to keep this from happening. So no grinder, no all raw, alas (and grinders are expensive...at least the size I would need). They do get some mashed up fish, clams, kidney and liver bits and some of the dogs veggie mix mixed in with their wet and dry food. It kills me every time I have to buy them processed food, but until I get some moolah...

I was kind of taken aback when I first learned of feeding dogs and cats raw too, Ruthie luv Smiley But when you think about it, it really makes a lot of sense (and when  you research any type of processed dog or cat food, it makes even MORE sense).
