Moose says, "Get in my Belly"

« on: January 24, 2008, 12:07:40 PM »

That darn Chow Mein!!! He just about gave me a heart attack last night. I'll just start from the beginning.

I'm trying to sell my Mustang and it needs a new battery since the old one is dead and nobody is going to purchase a car they can't start up and take for spin. Matt is at a trade show this week for work and not around until late so I needed to take care of the battery thing myself.

I was outside for about a 1/2 hour doing what I needed to do and when I came back in the house I can hear Chow Mein crying. I start calling him and he isn't coming to me. I turn off the TV and hear him again, it sounds faint and almost echo-ie. As I listen closer it sounds like it's coming from the vent. I run and shut off the heat and start calling for him some more. Sure enough I hear his meow's coming from the vent next to the bathroom.  He likes to play with that vent cover and I figure he must have pulled it up and fallen into and down the vent shaft.

Now I'm freaking out and in a total panic. I call Matt 500 times until he finally picks up. He tells me he just pulled into town and will be there right away.

I go down into the basement and the small room where the furnace is. I'm tapping on the pipes and calling for him. At this point I'm not hearing any meows anymore.  This is when I start to loose it and start yelling and tapping and yelling for him some more.

I run back upstairs and try fitting my hand into the vent to see if I can fill him. Then finally I hear his meows again. I decided to go back downstairs, see if I could figure out which pipe connected to that vent upstairs. I walk in the room turn the light on, turn to the furnace and low and behold there is that little brat of a kitten behind the furnace and under the foundation of the main house.

He played try to grab me if you can, which he lost at and wasn't to happy about being grabbed so roughly. The only thing I can figure out is that he slipped past me when I was going into the back room (which is an add on). There is a small space just between the wall and the foundation. He had to have squeezed his little butt into the space and ended up under the house.

By the time Matt got there I had him safe and needed a BIG hug!!! I was so upset and Matt was so great about it. Matt will bring some bricks over and we'll make sure if he gets into that room again he can't get under the house.

The reason I was hearing him from the vent was because where he was under the house was right by that vent. He sure is lucky I love him so much!!

After this whole ordeal I looked around VERY well and realized there are a few places that I NEED to kitten proof. I didn't think he could get into those places but if he got in that small place then he can get just about any where.

Oh, gosh! Crazy kitten! I would have had a heart attack, too! I'm glad he was okay. I hate it when they get into these difficult situations or they just keep backing away from you when you need to get them.

Yup, that would have given me a heart attack, too!  Yipes!  I'm glad it all ended well, though.  Smiley
