Just like the title says...

Tommy, our youngest, newest family member is almost 6 months (March 11). He was neutered today!!  Hyper As many of you may remember, we adopted Tommy when he was 10 weeks old, in October. Introductions went smoothly, and tommy has been getting along just fine with my older girls. When my husband brought Tommy home from the surgery, Zoey was hissing at both of them. I was not there, but this is what he told me: when Tommy came home Zoey was hissing and growling at him. She also hissed at my husband and was being generally unfriendly.
Since we've never had a neutered male before..I don't know what I should expect from my older girls. Does Zoey smell the other animals from the clinic on Tommy or the cage? Can she tell that he is neutered? Those are the two things that came to my mind first. But it is so strange, because she hasn't acted like this since she was first introduced. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated.
I am not worried about her hurting him, and I know she will get over it, but I would like to understand why she is acting out.

Thanks!

Don't worry, it is completely normal.  He just smells really odd to her right now.  She'll get over it quickly enough.  Smiley

Weird, and proud of it!

Yup, he and hubby both smelled like vet clinic, and anesthesia, and whatever else.  Pretty soon Tommy will smell "normal" to her again, and all will be well.  Smiley

So, if this is all it is then I feel much better! I guess this means that Zoey is more sensitive to the change than Annabelle. Anna just walked up to him and started grooming him...

It also explains why she had a hissing fit when she went near the carrier after he was out of it! My little girl is prone to bouts of PMS...so it doesn't surprise me that she is the most likely to let us know she is unhappy.

Thanks for the response, it puts my mind at ease.

mine just got neutred today and mine hissed as in that more male hormones are produced and on display so to speack. the carrier may smell of him and your hubby too. most female cats dont like full males. so they may be smelling the hormones. in a few days it will pass .
