Heatherama, are you driving too slow or *cough* even the speed limit in the fast lane? That's another one that drives me nuts, when a car is OBVIOUSLY driving slower than traffic and insists on not being in the right lane. It's not up to that person to determine how fast I go. There are even signs along the roads at times that say, "Slower Traffic Keep Right" and I go by that!! I've even seen it written across the top of a windshield so you can read it in your rear view mirror when they come up behind you. I love that one and have always wanted one for my own cars! hehehe I always try to pull over so people can pass, if they're coming up on me ...
oh oh -- we had an even better version of this on our way home from Vegas Sunday. Portions of that highway are 65mph 2-lane roads with periodic passing lanes. We had TWO cars right in front of us with old bitties driving about 45. As you can imagine, hubby was practically salivating when the passing lane came into view. The car immediately in front of us went to the right hand lane as expected. But the bleeping idiot in front of her decided to stay in the left-hand lane. HELLO -- its a PASSING lane. You are the car in front of the pack and you are driving 20mph BELOW the speed limit. By any definition, you need to go to the right hand lane. There are signs that say "stay right except to pass" -- if you're the front car you can't be passing!! So we ended up having to pass this dimwit on the right. She's just oblivious to the world, chatting with her passengers.
We live very close to a large retirement community -- we get our fair share of older drivers on the freeway doing 45-50. I can't tell you how many times I've come over the hill and about ran up the butt of somebody going absurdly slow. I am compassionate that older drivers may be less comfortable at today's highway speeds of 65. But at least in this city, you don't NEED to get on the freeway to get somewhere. You can get all the way across town on surface streets with speeds of 40-45. It may take longer, but if you aren't comfortable driving 65, then don't get on the freeway.
