litter box liners?

Does anyone use the plastic litterbox liners with the clumping litter? I was always under the impression that the plastic liners would somehow interfere with the clumping?
Also, how often do you completely dump your box if you use clumping litter? I thought the basic idea of clumping litter is to scoop out the waste regularly, top off with fresh litter, and then only need a complete refresh every couple months? Yet many of the websites I've encountered in my research advocate using clumping litter and dumping the whole box weekly?
Maybe I'm weird, but if I'm going to dump the whole box every week, I'd just as soon use regular litter with a liner bag instead of screwing with trying to scoop clumps of mud out of the box and having it all stuck to the box all the time. Not to mention that clumping litter is just plain more expensive per fill.

I use the plastic liner in the litterbox and I use the Fresh Step clumping with it. I have not had any problems with it. Everything clumps up fine. As the litter gets low I just add more. I do change the liner and litter every two weeks though. That is just my preference. My daughter or I clean the clumps out every night though. I know Fresh Step is more expensive but, I like the way it works. Even if I didn't use it I would still be using the liner. I love the liners.

Most cats hate liners and I find silica containing clay to be too dangerous to myself, my cat, and my rats and unenvironmentally friendly (it's mined). I use Swheat Scoop (renewable, unscented, safe) in my unlined boxes. I scoop out clumps and such every few days, top off litter as needed and tend to do a full box replacement every few months, depending on necessity.
It works really well and I'm very happy with it.
I like the wheat litter better than any other variety I've ever used.
Papurr also makes a clumping litter that looks and acts a lot like clay. It's cheaper than Swheat Scoop, if that's an issue.
As soon as work starts carrying biodegradable poop bags, I'm going to feel much better about not flushing my litter. I hate that I buy litter that will break down in the landfill but have to put it into horrible plastic bags. Liners also strike me as wasteful in this way.

When I used to use liners, they always got destroyed by the cats claws, so I figured it was just a waste of money and resources.
