Our youngest kitty Ravage is about 7 or 8 months old now. He was neutered back in April (i think). The week before he went in to be neutered he started showing spraying behavior. He would back up to an object and shake his tail. It look just like he was spraying, but there was no urine. I was hoping that we got him neutered soon enough after the behavior started that he would stop, but he hasn't. He still doesn't actually spray, but he acts like he his. I am worried that eventually he will spray and I really don't want to deal with that. So my two questions: Is it normal for a cat his age to "play" spray? Is there anyway to stop it?

Ya, I had a cat who would do that too. When ever you see him lift his tail try making a loud noise to startle him. Eventually he should figure out that lifting the tail is no fun and he should stop.

He walks around with his tail straight up in the air all the time, but I was thinking about startling him or using a squirt gun when he was shaking his tail.

My boys and girls shake their tails too. None have ever sprayed or urinated on vertical objects.

Well that sounds good. Maybe it is nothing to worry about after all. I just know that once a cat starts praying it is nearly impossiblet to get them to stop so i wanted to catch it before it happened!

One of my boys does that, and has since we got him (he was around 2 then, and is around 7 now). He goes through the motions, but there has never been any actual spraying.

She was asking why her cat would make the strange tail motions. It wasn't spraying.
