Three weeks ago, I adopted a kitten from the local animal shelter. He is now 3 months old. The vet gave him a clean bill of health, but his breath is awful. I have never noticed this before in any of my other cats. He does meow alot and alot of times it is in my face, so I guess I do notice it a little more. Is it normal for a kittens breath to smell bad? He goes back to the vet next week for his next set of shots. Other than the bad breath, he appears quite healthy. I'll post some pictures later on of him. He is sooooo cute!

All I could think of is Sinus problems, one problem leading to bad breath, our elderly cat Tiger has somewhat bad breath from her Sinus problems, smells like dead fish. tard But then, why would your kitten's breath be bad? Has he been getting a hold of any small animals outside? Sorry,I can't think of anything else.. icon_scratch

I can tell you my experience with bad breath. We adopted our first cat in March. She had awful smelling breath. I took her to the vets and she was healthy. The vet asked what I was feeding her and I told him. He asked if it was chicken or fish flavor. Of course it was fish. Come to find out fish flavor causes bad breath in cats. I switched her to Innova because she had severe gas too. Ever since the switch she does not have the bad breath. That could be one possibility.

Bad breath in cats and kittens can be caused by gum or dental problems, respiratory problems, or underlying disease.
