I'm trying to decide if this would be a good idea or not...
My kitten Church was a feral/stray. When I caught him (unplanned, he was 5-6 weeks old) my brother was waiting for a kitten from a breeder, so as soon as Church's health was cleared after the other kitten came home they were together. Pretty much from the time the kitten came home from the breeder.
Here's the dilemma... My brother may be moving across the country this fall, and he's going to take his kitten with him. The two kittens love to play together and chase each other around. They're now both around 8-9 months old. I'm trying to decide if it would be a good idea to get another kitten/cat after my brother leaves so that Church will have a playmate? I also have a senior cat who is very grumpy and dislikes both kittens. I'm also worried if Church has no one to play with he might start bothering my other cat who would HATE that!

I kind of feel about cats the same way I feel about rats in that being solitary isn't good for them...unless you have an older cat who hates all other cats, but kittens and young cats especially need the companionship.  Rats and cats groom each other and interact together in a way that humans just can't replace for them.  I think it's better to the kitten sooner rather than later since the younger they are the more likely they are to get along.

It will be good to adopt another one as this gives each kitten a kitten playmate

It's a shame the kittens will be separated, but I think both you and your brother should get additional kitties for companionship.   Would you consider letting your brother take both kittens, and you can get another?  It seems like these two are a bonded pair, and I suggest doing what's best for the kittens, even though it would be a very tough decision on your part.

When I was living with a friend of mine our cats were very close. Hers was a youngish kitten and mine was about eleven months old. Well, she moved and George was lonely, so I got him Charlie. It was a great decision.

I agree with Dearpie.  Think more of the kittens, and let them stay together - either with you, or with your brother.

One of my cats lost her "brother" when she was younger, and she has never bonded the same way with another cat.  It is really sad, honestly.  Sad

that is true, George never bonded as well with Charlie as he did with Toby... I wish that I had kept Toby.
