I'm engaged! Haha. No ring though which is what I've been waiting for to announce it, but I can't wait any longer. We will have been dating 8 months in August, but everything feels so right. Getting engaged this soon doesn't feel weird at all, which is funny cus if it was any other man, it probably would. We have set the date for next year (October 17th, 2009). I am starting to do the little planning things, and am going to go look at wedding dresses tomorrow (not buy though, I want to see what I like).

Here is he and I:

Here is the ring we chose, I'm still waiting for him to get it:

If anyone has any advice on money saving....that'd be great. We're really on a tight budget.

Edit: Scroll down for ring/engagement pics (and a story of the proposal)

Something that saved me a TON of money was getting my wedding outfit off ebay.  I went to wedding stores and tried on dresses and figured out what the best size was and what style looked best on me and then I spent a few weeks looking through ebay.  I got a gorgeous dress for $100 and spent $80 getting it perfectly fitted and bustled.  I also got the crinoline and corset (which I didn't end up wearing) and shoes off ebay.  It saved me a ton of money.
Oh and in season/cheap flowers.  Though things are so expensive.  Fall leaves would be a good accent for your tables since its in October.

Well it's in CA, which means it will not be cold or even close to being fall like, haha. I am planning on going to the flower district here in LA this october to see what they have, so I can plan for bouquets for next year. I will be doing my own flowers, they will be simple, but they will be cheap!

I will take your advice about the dress. I will make note of the ones I like and in what size and I will check to see if I can one online, such a good idea!

*Whew* I thought this was going to be a pregnancy announcement.

Congratulations!!!!! Ah how exciting for you. Welcome to the vomit inducing Fiance club! We can't say boyfriend but we can't say husband. And once you get it, you can shove your ring in everyone's face like I do (admit it you engaged people, you do it too!).

Well he really hasn't officially proposed! Hehe. We have both agreed that we want to get married, set a date ect. But I am waiting on the ring and proposal for the official "engaged" date I suppose. I was waiting for that to announce on here, but I wanted to tell people! My distant family doesn't know about it, but both his family and my family know about it. That's fine. I know it's gonna be before october...So hopefully soon!

Yay! Congrats! I had an October wedding too  Oct. 7th, 2006. Unfortunately I don't have much advice on saving money. We had our wedding outdoors on campus at Purdue University, and they didn't charge any kind of space rental fee. They said we could do whatever we wanted but they couldn't stop other people from intruding or doing stuff near us. We also used silk flowers, which really helped with cost, and looked beautiful! Other than that, we went all out with the reception - sit down dinner, live band, etc. The main thing is to have fun though! The day goes by sooo fast, so try to cherish every minute - and get lots of pics and video.  Tongue

Congrats!!! Cheesy

October really is a lovely time of year to get married.

I will celbrate 15 years on October 30th Grin Yes, we had a whole lot of of Halloween going on. Even our cake had tiny cermaic pumpkins and ghosts on it (I made those). I also made all the guys beer mugs for the head table, those were skulls Tongue

Its alot of fun, but it doesnt need to be stressful. Just go with it, find what works for you and make the day as wonderful as possible.

Far as budget? We spent 12k on a very small wedding almost 15 years ago, less than 100 people... Shocked 2

Good Luck with everything!!!!!

Congratulations!!!  I will be married 7 years on October 6th.  What a great time of year to get married.  We spent only around $1000 for our wedding and it was really nice too, at least in my opinion.  I got my wedding dress from a JCPenny outlet for only $200.  We used silk flowers (like someone else said, a real budget saver!!!)  I got all my flowers on sale at AC Moore and made my bouquet and the flowers for the girls.  My mom actually made the moms corsages and the flowers the guys wear (can't think of the name...LOL)  We got married in a little church that my parents went to.  Cost us about $100 for the preacher and the pianist.  We had the reception in an enclosed pavilion at our county park (rental fee $50)  I went tacky and used paper plates and plastic silverware, but every one loved it.  For the center pieces on the tables, I made all of those out of seasonal flowers and pots.  We used mums as the alter flowers and used silk fall leaves and things like that to decorate the fireplace mantel.  I basically went seasonal and sale.  My wedding shoes were sandals I got on sale at Payless for $5, but really no one saw them anyway, but they were actually very dressy, just on clearance.  The veil, I kind of made.  I bought the pieces for it at AC Moore and just put it together, cost me less than $20, but was still pretty.  Cheap, I know how to do, you just have to decide how fancy you want your wedding.  If you want it held at a country club, cheap is not going to happen...LOL

congrats! i could  give you money saving tips, but you probably wouldn't want them.. i had one of the cheapest weddings ever (and i wouldn't have it any other way) a lady i knew officiated for $100 and we had the wedding in my friends backyard by firelight on new years, we kissed at midnight, and were pronounced husband and wife at 12:01 as the fireworks were going off over the river.. we ordered pizza to feed everyone, and it was beautiful.  as far as rings go, my first ring cost $25 at k-mart, and i didn't get my "real" ring till a week before the wedding.. but really i don''t think a ring is a big deal.

Awww!  Congratulations!!  Heart

Having a ring is fun, but obviously not essential.  In fact, I wear a single ring now, not even my wedding set.  Plenty of women prefer a single band (with or without a sparkling embellishment), so they don't have a ring until the ceremony!

So he proposed officially yesterday, it had to be really one of the best days of my life. He collaborated with my best friend (Jillian), and made it a total surprise. Jillian had asked me like a month and a half ago to go to this ballet with her, it was this Saturday. Since it's a ballet (which are normally high class affairs), we had to get dressed up ect (in heels, makeup, nails done). So she says it's in this park in the back. So we're walking towards the back of this HUGE park, in heel, in about 95 degree weather. I was soooo hot.

Anyways, we come to the back and there is this huge rose garden. I was totally thinking in my head "This would be the perfect place for Austine to propose to me", but I didn't want to be dissapointed. Then I saw him! He was standing there with a big grin on his face. I tried to play it cool, I didn't want to let myself down if he wasn't proposing, so I went up to him and was like, "Are you going to the ballet?!", and he said, "maybe", and got down on one knee! I'll admit I teared up, I hadn't expected myself too, but I did anyways. After he's done, Jill was all like "DID YOU SAY YES?" haha, like I wouldn't. His best friend Brian was there, he had gotten pictures of him proposing, and took some video too!

After that there was another, smaller surprise. Brian chauffeured us to a favorite restaurant of mine. He wouldn't let me go inside. When we went inside, all my friends were there, as were his! We all sat around a table, ate and had fun. Then we went back to Austine's house, swam, drank, and just talked. It was probably one of the best nights ever!

I'll put some pictures up here once I get them from my fiance!
