i'm helping someone make a feel better box for those nights when she's all alone and not sure if she wants to make it through the night. before you ask, yes she is on meds and in therapy--i mentioned this to her and her therapist loved the idea. so what i would like is a list of everyone's feel good movies, then i'll give her the list and she can pick and choose.  maybe this list will help her come up with her own list.

my movies:
clueless
legally blonde
mars attacks
princess bride
white chicks

Strange Brew always makes me smile.
I think most Pixar/Disney movies would fit in that category also.

Beauty Shop, Little Miss Sunshine, Princess Diaries 1&2, and maybe some Men in Black? And check out some of Tyler Perry's Madea movies. Like Madea's Family Reunion and Diary of a Mad Black Woman.

I think it's great that you're making this box for your friend. I suggest adding some bubbles in there too. They always make me happier.

As for movies, some of my favorite pick me ups that no one has mentioned yet: The Blues Brothers, Back to the Future, Clue, Goonies, Alice in Wonderland, LA Story, The Naked Gun and Mel Brooks! Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein, History of the World . . .

oh there are bubbles, colouring books and crayons, paint by number sets, legos, playdoh, puzzles (disgustingly cute ones), and paper dolls!!!

make one.  put it in a big box and decorate the box.
one of her first "assignments" will be to decorate her box with the markers, paints, sponges, stickers, and other things i've put in there.  then she can choose activities to help her get through the night.

i'm also putting in CDs (silly songs and stuff) and a book of really stupid jokes.

I pretty much only watch 'feel good' movies, and these are some of my favorites.  Some people might think a few of these are too stupid, though... I tend to like movies even if they're 'bad,' as long as they make me laugh.

Romantic comedies:

Princess Bride
Amelie
You've Got Mail
Bridget Jone's Diary
Stranger than Fiction
The Lake House

By Ghibli Studios:

Spirited Away
Kiki's Delivery Service
Castle of Cagliostro
My Neighbor Totoro

Action Comedies:

Indiana Jones... Quadrilogy?
Shanghai Noon
True Lies
Pirates of the Caribbean

I know someone already mentioned Disney movies, but I definitely would say Wall-E in particular is feel good.  He is just the most lovable main character! Not sure when it comes out on DVD, though.

All the Lord of the Rings movies
The Court Jester
Ever After
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the old movie)
Shawshank Redemption (a new favorite)
and of course Ratatouille;)

I'm so glad Dark Rogue mentioned The Court Jester. Probably my favorite Danny Kaye movie. The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle and the chalice from the palace holds the brew that is true!

I suggest adding some bubbles in there too. They always make me happier.

That sounds like such a wonderful package! Sounds like you've thought of a bunch of creative ways to keep her occupied and expressing herself. It's a wonderful idea. I hope it really helps her get through some rough nights.

A really funny song I love is Tounge tied from red dwarf (sang by Danny John Jules). If you can't find it and want to hear it PM me and i'll find a way to send it to you.

Sometimes when i'm feeling low I don't like watching full movies so maybe try a few funny tv show dvd's too. Red dwarf is one of my favourites, Doctor who always makes me feel good (everyone likes it when the good guys win!), scrubs, the IT crowd. Ooh and monty python - the holy grail for a great fun movie.

Silver -LOL! I used to own the whole Red Dwarf set. That was a great episode. So was the backwards one. Too funny. I'm a huge Monty Python fan, too. One of many movies I quote on a regular basis Wink

The (After) Life Of The Party

« Reply #25 on: September 05, 2008, 06:24:01 PM »

Blah. everyone listed american movies. I don't watch many of those. I try and limit myself. I'm all about foreign films. I like the German, British, Korean Films. So these are my most recent picks. (I'm probably no good but I'll include some ok American stuff)

foreign films.

- Pans Labyrinth
- Devils backbone
- The Orphanage.
- Lady Vengeance
- Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
- Oldboy (one of the best movies EVER made!)
- Tsotsi
- dot the i

And I guess I'll toss in some American stuff too.
- Both of the Hellboys.
- The Transporter (both of them)
- Finding Neverland
- Memento
- The machinist
