Gone, but not forgotten

WWW
« on: May 06, 2008, 03:32:28 PM »

I've been fostering Keifer for about a month now, but just can't decide on what he might be.  If I had to guess, I'd say perhaps a Husky mix - solely based on the curly tail and the blue eye.  I can see a lot of things in him, Basenji, corgi, sometimes maybe even a bit of a bully breed.  The rescue has him listed as a beagle/corgi mix, since that's what they were told.  He just seems rather big to be either of those though!

He's 5 months old, 25lbs, and 18" high at the shoulder.  He's VERY smart, and headstrong.  I don't see many distinctive traits from a specific breed, but here's a bit about him...   He is very interested in the cat, but ignores the rabbits and rats.  He growls when he's uncertain about something.  He is GREAT with dogs and kids, has no issues with possessiveness or aggression.  He is very much a people dog, and while he's gotten better, if I'm away from him for more than a few minutes, he has to come find me.  He isn't very vocal, but does utter the occasional bark when he's excited.  He also likes to "talk" (grumble  lol) when it's meal time and I'm making him down-stay while he waits to eat.  He enjoys being outside, loves playing fetch, but not to the point where he'd run after a ball 24/7.

Here are some pics.  These are a couple weeks old, but you get the idea...

Don't forget Aussie mixes often have one or both eyes blue. Perhaps he could be part Aussie instead of Husky?

i would rule out husky and most likly beagle. I'm not real familar with corgi but i can concivably see a little tiny bit of pit bull maybe. or possibly boxer. The aussie is most likly correct for they eye. Why not just say mutt and make it easy?

I see a bit of Boxer in him, not so much in the body or head, but in the tail. To me it looks like it belongs on a dog that is normally docked (it is set high, and is a bit short).

I don't see any Corgi or Beagle in him. It will probably be easier to tell once he matures a bit more.

Alaskan husky is just a mix of a husky and something else.  I would say that with terrier / lab.

I would say husky (alaskan, not a mix, just the working variety) for his daddy, maybe a touch of corgi for those short legs. HIs mom looks a bit like a beagle/bully/lab mix. So some of those in there too :p, in short, a wonderful, sweet, lovable mutt. Which is, of course, the best breed of all  Yellow Cute Laugh

He looks exactly like a sleddog. Husky-crossed working dogs. But his mother looks like a hound cross. Hound/Sleddog? Hehe, whatever he is, he's adorable.
