Rat Girl

We are getting Peter into the vet as soon as we can but until then what can we do to give Peter some help in his constipation.  I feel bad for him and he has barely pooped in a few days now.

try pumpkin.  i think you can use a pediatric fleet enema (pour out the solution and replace with plain water) for immediate relief, but pumpkin will help over the long haul.

ps this will probably be moved to the dog care section.

Canned pumpkin is good for the more long term, but it will also help with the short term.  Olive oil can help lubricate things up and get them moving as well.

Cooked, peeled pumpkin.   The canned stuff often has added sugar or spices.

Yes, get him to the vet.  There may be a dangerous blockage.  Hope he's okay.

aIf you buy pumpkin pie mix it has the added stuff but every grocery store sells plain canned pumpkin with nothing added. I've used pumpkin for my dog and olive oil for my kitten when she was having horrible constipation issues. Pumpkin seems to work very well for dogs.

Yup, I get plain canned pumpkin, not the pumpkin pie mix.  It's just straight pumpkin, without all the work.  Wink

I also used mineral oil for my megacolon kitty.  I gave a 7lb cat about a tablespoon twice a day and it usually "all came out in the wash" the next day.   Wink
