Title: What do you guys think of this cage?
Post by: rattie love on April 13, 2008, 08:50:22 PM
I will be getting my first two ferrets and I'm doing research on which would be the best home.
This looks like it would be a nice home that can keep them happy while I'm not around. What do you think would be the pros and cons of this home?

cruddy cage. I had that cage for my fuzzies. It was terrible. Horrible to clean, horrible to look at, the doors are too small, etc... I could go on for hours....

The cage you REALLY would absolutely LOVE is a Ferret Nation. They are the best cages ever, you will never have to get another cage again. Well built, easy to clean, spacious etc.... I could go on forever about how much I love my FN now compared to that other horrible cage.

I'd worry about falling with that cage.  Ferrets are not the most graceful and surefooted animals out there.  If a fuzzy were to slip and tumble off one of the platforms, he could fall pretty far- especially the middle section.  I have a Martins ferret cage for my weasel.  All the levels are full levels (no small platforms), so I don't have to worry about her falling.  I also don't see a lot of quality floor space in that cage.  It's all teeny platforms, which are great for climbing, but if the weasel wanted to flop down on the floor for a nap, my teeny girl would probably do ok, but a big hob would have his bum hanging off one end.  My girl loves to root around in a big pile of soft blankets and can be found in her sleep sack as often as her hammock, so she definately needs a cage with a lot of floor space.  That cage seems to be designed for chinchillas, not ferrets (except for the plastic on the shelves being chewed to bits in 5 minutes).  I second the ferret nation, or the feisty ferret is a similar design and cheaper.  Or you can go Martins- I have The Ferret Condo (F-475) which is only $185 before shipping for the PVC coated cage.

I opt for the Ferret Nation as well. I just got rid of my superpet, the doors drove me nuts too!  Cleaning is going to be a breeze with the FN and is HUGE. we got it out of the box and I was more excited then when I got it from the store the hole ride home!  Though i have heard some good things about the fiesty ferret which is a bit smaller and cheaper then the Ferret Nation.
