Title: Oh My Gosh you aren't going to believe this!!! Post by: Ratty Krazy on April 13, 2008, 08:59:43 PM So, my hubby and I have been throwing around the idea of getting ferrets for pretty much years now and did all this research but was just waiting for "the right one" basically. We knew that we didn't want to "buy" one when there are so many out there that need to be adopted.
I met up with a woman on this forum like a week or two ago (my memory is shot..sorry) and she was telling me how she had a friend that has three of them that are older (not babies) and she wanted to give them up. I talked to my hubby about it and we both got very excited. We discovered that they lived in a single story FN but didn't come with the cage so we did some rearranging and cleared one story of my FN for them to live in temporarily until next week when I can get them their own double level FN. I had contacted the woman by email, three times, with no answer back....we didn't know what was going on.... We decided to go "shelter hopping" today to see if there were any rats ...just to see....We ended up at this humane society that was both a humane society and a vet's clinic but mostly a vet's clinic. I was standing in line to ask if they have any rats for adoption and in walks this woman with this tiny baby ferret. I of course made my hubby stand in line and went to go pet the little baby. I figured she was there to get her little guy some shots or something. The woman and I struck up a conversation and I told her that I was waiting for this woman to write me back because she has three up for adoption and I really was interested. She looked at me and said, "well this is your lucky day...here" and hands me this tiny baby. Of course I was in shock! She explained to be that her daughter brought this "stinking animal" into her home and she refuses to let her keep it so she was there giving it up!!! Needless to say....the little girl came home with me! She's 10-12 weeks old and just the sweetest little thing! I had her checked over by the vet since I was there and the vet said she was perfect and ended up giving her a distemper shot. I feel really bad because I just wrote the other lady explaining this to her and told her that I can't take her three ferrets right now.... Then again, she didn't write me back so maybe she found another home for them or something.... So this little girl doesn't have a name yet. Any suggestions??? I don't know about keeping ferrets and rats in the same vacinity, are the rats stressed out since bringing this girl home? I'm no good at names. Maybe Lendri or Elil from Watership Down terms for predatory animals.

Post by: Ratty Krazy on April 13, 2008, 09:31:35 PM Nah my rats seem to careless...The ferret doesn't even seem to notice either...I have known others with both ferrets and rats and don't really have a problem. I will NEVER let them out together and I will monitor all of them everytime they are out VERY closely....
