This past weekend we attended the local Battle of The Atlantic Parade that remembers all those who lost their lives on ships that were sunk during this phase of the war.

My eldest daughter, Jess,  is a Sea Cadet and had to stand guard at the Cenotaph, it was a really cold miserable day but she did it without a word of complaint.  I didn't get a good shot of her, but here's on taken last Nov 11, the Cadets on Cenotaph have to stand in this position for the whole service, almost an hour I would think, and I just wanted to share how proud I am of her!

Neat, perhaps this is an odd/innappropiate question but do I only see one leg?

LOL, now that really would be a feat (excuse the pun!).  No, Jess definitely has two - legs and 2 feet, it's just the angle the photo was taken at and the position they have to stand in.

Hehe... at first I though she had fallen asleep on the job  Grin

Of course that would be just like me... to fall asleep on the job.
Several times I have jerked awake at the sound of my boss saying... "Debi! Where you sleeping??"

One time I even had drool on my face! how embarassing!

*grin*

That's funny!  What kind of work do you do?  I wouldn't be surprised if Jess fell asleep on the job, given the late nights she likes to keep.

It is a lovely photo Louise, and little wonder you are proud of Jess.

I didn't know that you used the poppy emblem in the US for Remembrance Day.
It's really heartening to see young people like Jess still showing their respect in this way.

I go to the launch of the Poppy Appeal (in aid of vets) here in Scotland most years, and I recall the Chairman of the Appeal saying that far from the passing years and the passing of the old servicemen and women diminishing support for the charity, the amount collected each year is actually increasing.
And it is young people who are showing ever more interest.

He did also say however, that if only the beneficiaries they are raising money for had fur, they'd probably bring in five times as much!
By that comment, he was comparing what the Poppy Appeal raises with what is donated to our main animal charity!

I don't think the US does the poppy thing but up here in Canada, being one of the colonies you know, we follow the good old British tradition.  My biggest gripe about Nov 11th  over here is how many people just use it for a holiday.  A lot of stores close for the morning, and the Government takes either the whole day or half a day off.  I don't think it should be a holiday, all those people are not attending parades.
