I don't know if this has been talked about before...but I'm fairly new here, and I was curious what other kinds of pets all of you own?
I personally own two mice, lots of fish, and a clawed frog

Yes, we've had this before - but I don't think any of us mind talking about our pets!
I've got the three rat-boys (Fly, Badger and Roger), and two cat-boys, Carrots (black and white DLH) and Sooty (ginger and white DSH - the name started as a joke and stuck - he actually belongs to a neighbour but lives with us! Real name is Sonic).
I've also got a horse who's been retired for several years due to lameness (he's about 25 now) - he lives in horsey-paradise out in the countryside with my parents.
We had a lovely mongrel dog, Dizzy, who died of old age about 2 years ago - as soon as we move to a place with a garden we'll be getting another.....
Oh - and there's also a small child, who belongs to my boyfriend ....!

I've got 11 rats now. (Do I hold the record on the forum?)
I got 3 babies saturday, named one Domino, and one Indiana. I haven't named the boy because he hasn't manifested a personality yet. They're 4 1/2 weeks old
I also have a 7 month old fawn dumbo male named Simon, and a 6 month old american blue girl named Blueberry Muffin.
Then there's the original rat, Skittles. She's about 16 months old, and is the mother to the remaining 5 rats.
The boys from that litter are Rizo, Gabriel, and Sirus Ratblock. The girls are Percephony and Widget. They're all 10 months old.
(Don't worry, they're seperated by sex, I just think of them in this way, by age and aqusition)
The other pet is a bit stranger. I have a giant african Millipede named Heimlic. He's about 3 years old, and could live to be 15.
Thats about all the love I have to share with pets right now. They keep my ratty cup full.

Currently I only have the 4 rats in my apartment. I am moving into my mobile home this week and in three weeks my parents are driving out with my five rabbits (I am a rabbit breeder and have cages for up to 25 so they won't be "five" rabbits for long!)
Back at home (my parents house, in AZ and I am in NC, but they are still my pets-) I have 3 dogs (all mixes), 2 parakeets and then my brothers breed rabbits too, so there are about 20 more rabbits.
After I get my house all set up I am adopting a dog of my own, setting up my 20 gallon fish tank and getting a beta fish for my bathroom.
Before I moved here I also had a tank full of various tree frogs and toads, a hermit crab container, and a big crayfish.
And in the future Jeremy wants a pair of ferrets and I want a pair of either cockatiels or a conure. And of course a second dog... and...and...and...
I collect animals!

I have the 3 rats; Daisy, Hunny Bunny and Cheddar.
Then we have the 3 dwarf hammies; Poppet, Mimei, and Skunk Baxter. I can't stand these guys. They're boring, like little mice who want to be left alone all the time. They're not fun like rats.
I'm a die hard fishgeek, so we've got 5 tanks around the house. 3 of them are species tanks which means only ONE species of fish live in them. One contains Figure 8 puffers, one has dwarf puffers and the 3rd has tiger barbs. The other two tanks are planted community tanks. All but 1 of the tanks contain live plants & nothing else for "decoration".
We've got 2 dogs; Bonnie Mae (we call her Bommay), and Gromit.

I love hedgies =P what do you feed yours, and how long have you had it?
Hi Rachel,
We took her in about 4 months ago. A lady my hubby works with knew we were animal nuts, and she told him about her son and DIL's family (or maybe daughter and SIL's... don't remember for sure), who had gotten a hedgehog but they and the kids had since lost interest in it. They were considering taking her to the Humane Society... if they would even accept her there, that is! Scott came home and asked me, and of course, I immediately agreed we'd take her (what a silly question!!).
She's an adorable salt and pepper, now about 1 to 1-1/4 years old. They had her in a filthy terrarium, filled with about 4 inches of nasty old cedar shavings!!!
I think the only thing she'd ever been fed was one brand of catfood!
She also came with a huge ferret cage, however, which had the same floor space but was twice the height of the cage we had for our ratties, so we switched the critters. Scuzzy now lives in the shorter old rat cage, since hedgies aren't really that adept at climbing ladders/levels, and the ratties are appreciating their new palace.
We also got Scuz cleaned up, changed to a ferret corner litterbox with Yesterday's News pellets and Eco-Bedding (she uses her litterbox very well, bless her heart!), and tried advancing her diet to include other recommended foods. Unfortunately, she just doesn't understand about fruits and vegetables... but since hedgies are insectivores, we've had great success getting her to eat mealworms and the occasional cricket. We tried a commercial hedgehog food, but she wouldn't touch it, either. We've also changed her much-loved catfood to include 3 different top-quality brands, since there is some concern over Iams alone possibly causing liver damage in hedgies.
We came into adopting her not knowing anything about hedgies, but we did lots of quick research and are learning more all the time. Turned out my best friend had had a hedgie for awhile, but they didn't keep her warm enough and she died young. We have a regular heating pad under the bottom floor of Scuzzy's cage, kept on medium during our cold winter, and now on low for the spring/summer months and she loves it! She was quite lethargic when she first joined our family, but she's much healthier, more active, and more social now.
Overall I would not recommend hedgies as pets except to people willing to really do the research ahead of time and recognize that they have special needs and, frankly, don't make the world's best pets. They honestly have no more personality than a grouchy hamster, quite frankly.
And they are VERY nocturnal. We rarely see her up and about on her own (although we wake her up each evening for some exercise around the living room and to get her favorite mealworm treats before we go to bed). They tend to hiss a warning as you approach them... they don't care much to be bothered. But we do pick her up and cuddle and hold her, and she has warmed up to us quite a bit, considering. I've gotten pretty good at handling her and can get her to curl up in a cute hedgie-ball without tensing up her quills. WE honestly think she's absolutely adorable and loveable as can be, but we're a little on the insane side when it comes to critters around this house!
Here's a site that we've referred to quite a bit... it has great hedgie FAQs and tons of information!

LMAO!!!!!!!!! I don't know that I would call dwarf hammies the spawn of Satan, but they're nowhere near as fun as rats, that's for sure. LOL! Poppet is a little troll, but the others are very shy & sweet. They just want to be left alone. So we do. LOL! We clean their cage twice a week, which is a pain because it's a Habitrail Space Station, and we feed them, but we leave them alone. They see us coming and RUN! "Oh NO! Here they come to play with us! ACCCK! RUN RUN RUN!" LOL!
I would, however, call Syrian hamsters the spawn of Satan. LOL!
So!!!!!!!!!! You breed show bettas, huh? Don't you just love them? They're so smart & beautiful. What types do you breed? Do you have crowntails & double tails & all that? OOOOOOOOHhhh! Do you breed those white ones? What are they called? Holy Grail? OMG! Those are STUNNING! My favorites are the black ones, though. They're sooooooo cool. Do you breed those at all? Have you ever seen the orange ones? Those are supposed to be relatively new. I've never seen any.
So, what's in your other 3 tanks?

I didn't answer last time! I've had just about every pet you can think of (except spiders - I am seriously arachnophobic! )
Right now I just have 3 ratties: Ms.Muffet, Ashley Peebody (heehee) and my sweet Daisy.
I have 3 cherry barbs and 5 neon tetras.
And of course, my new aquisition - Chloe the pit bull!

Besides my four rats, I also have a leopard gecko named Dragon, a Pac-man or Ornate Horned frog that still has no name, some guppies the frog is supposed to eat but won't, crickets for the frog and gecko, mealies for the gecko (yeah, I kinda consider the food pets, they are living in my house and fridge after all!) and last but not least- my dear sweet gonna give me a heartattack and grey hair, epileptic lab/aust cattle dog cross Asher. She's the most expensive pet I own, is overweight by 20 pounds, takes two different meds twice a day, is on a limited diet and wakes me up regularly at 6am, she hasn't gotten the hang of the fact that I don't have school at 730 anymore! She considers herself one of the rats and is a spoiled brat!

Hey! Stop dissing on hamsters people! They may not be as interactive as rats, but their still cute and entertaining! Devils spawn indeed...my hammies are offended! If you tamed your hamsters correctly and got them from a reputable source you wouldn't have that problem
Anyway...as for my pets I have:
1 dog-Missie a Yorkie
2 cats-Figaro and Stu (both girls lol)
2 hamsters-(both syrians) Gabby and Dominic. Gabs is a gold tort, but is shown as a golden umbrous. She's my prize winning hammie.
Dominic is a normal golden. He wins best pet nonetheless
And I'm soon adding one rat (she'll have a friend, but it'll be my friend's) and another syrian hammie!
And I want like a million other animals...lol More rodents, a chinchilla, a ferret...more more more!

You shouldn't assume that people don't properly socialize their animals. For one thing, it's way too presumptuous, and for another it's just plain RUDE!
Syrians bite quite unpredictably, and maybe yours were spawned from Heaven itself and don't bite, but every Syrian I've ever met has had a biting problem. It's because of the nippy qualities of most Syrians that people assume rats will bite, too.
As for the dwarf guys, we MAKE them play with us. They hate it, and they run away, and squeeze into their stupid little tubes so we have to disassemble parts of the cage to get them to come out. They don't like it, and 5 minutes after they get out, they want to go back in the cage and BITE us until they are put back. We've had them since September, and have tried all kinds of ways of socializing them. We're always really careful to leave them alone when they're sleeping, because God knows when you wake a hammy, you're going to get bitten and HARD. We go play with them in the early afternoon/evening when they're freshly napped & fed & watered. Poppet the troll bites when we put fresh food in the cage! I have to wrap my hand in something when replacing the food dish because she sees my hand as a threat to her food supply. She cannot be hand fed. We've tried it daily. She won't hear of it. My other two never bite (unless they want back in the cage), and will take food from our hands, but they don't want to be held.
I'll thank you not to be so presumptuous in the future.

ahh..I'm so pleased =P I also have my regular steel blue HMs that are my pond spawners...well, "pond" being a baby pool in the back yard with java moss and some floating plants that gets nothing more than topped off every day =P I know..blah blah blah
anyhoo..in my other tanks I have just a planted community, with about half a million cory cats(I adore those guys), clown loaches, kuhlis, a trio of gold rams, and a few others...a nano-reef with only some shrooms and hermits right now, and another basic tank with spawning killies

Yup, I think so too, Rachel! Scuzzy is a sweet, funny little thing. We get quite a kick out of her. What's even funnier is that even though they aren't by nature overly friendly critters, Scuz has come to like me but LOVES my husband! He's the one who gives her all her mealworms, and she's become quite a Daddy's girl! Heheh!
Here are a couple of pics of our funny girl. First, Scuzzy out playing in the living room:
...and here she is rolled up in my hand:
She's so funny!

Heimlic is a funny one. He recognizes me by smell and taste, and will ususally only uncurl for me.
I have gotten purple fingers twice though
But he's still my buggy baby, and I have plenty of years to love him.
You can see a picture of him here, for some reason this time it doesn't want to work.

Sounds excellent! I'm not brave enough to do anything remotely related to salt water yet. LOL! Reef tanks are a good way to keep interested in the hobby, though, because there's always something that needs to be done, or some new gizmo on the market that you've just GOT to have. LOL!
