My birthday is a little over a month away and I'm getting asked what I want for my birthday...  Hum... 23rd birthday...  I WANT MY HUSBAND!  But by then I will still have another 4-5 months to go.  Guess I'm not so easy to shop for this year.

My hubs is a marine engineer... designing mobile oil platforms and floating bits and bobs for marine industrial applications, and I hate when he's in the field in Iceland or the North Sea for long periods (and for us.. 'long' is usually no more than a month at a time unless bad weather keeps them from being able to transport the guys back to the mainland)...  (and yes, the cosmic irony of me, the ACLU save-the-whales tree hugging pagan hippie tree-hugger, being married to the big-oil-wins-all marine engineer conservative suit wearing guy, hasn't passed without notice Wink  Life's a funny old thing, ennit?)

I really can't imagine him being gone for 6 months at a time...  I saw when you posted that he was leaving for his tour and my heart really went out to you...

I know it's not much comfort probably... but there are many in the world who do put a large value on the jobs that the service people are doing...  =/

I finally heard from my husband last night.  It was good to hear his voice and talk to him, even though it was a really short call.  I got off the phone with him and cried for awhile.  Lucky for me, my cat is very cuddley (sp)

Today went better.  Stayed in a pretty good mood most of the day, and finally got some cleaning done (it needed it)  I've been feeding my ebay addiction - and have quite a few books on the way, as well as a new cage for the rat boys!  My husband would probably like to thank everyone who outbids me!  I bid on way too many things!

I talked to my husband's roomate online tonight for a little bit.  He says my husband spends most of his free time sitting around playing games on our laptop.  That's my husband for ya!  This time is much better all around than the last 2 tours his roomate were on.

For now, it's just concentrate on keeping up with everything, writing to him, and getting this place and everything ready for him to come home to.  As odd as it seems, with how much I miss him, I'm sitting here smiling.  Love's crazy!  If anyone would like to send him care packages, letters, or anything please let me know!  PM me for his address.  Motomail is also great.  They just started it the first of this year.  It works for Marines, or Navy that is stationed with marines.  For any of you with loved ones in that sitation, check out www.motomail.us and see if their units are included.  You can type letters and they will be sent to a sation, printed, sealed, addressed, and delivered within a couple of days.

You know... that's something I meant to post about earlier..  When my hubs is gone on field work, we always hang out together in some of the games we both play.  I don't exactly know how it would work for the two of you, a lot of women aren't really into the online-gaming thing, but we've played Everquest together, and lately have been playing a lot of World of Warcraft.  When he's gone, it helps to be able to just hang out doing something fun together.  My guy isn't one who enjoys just sitting and chatting on IM, he needs more mental stimulation or goal oriented stuff or something.. or maybe I'm just really really boring in IM chats Wink

If your guy has internet access, you might want to check out WoW or another online game...  (I warn you... online multiplayer roleplaying games are addictive... you'll find yourself logging on just to 'check if that armour I wanted is still for sale in the auction house' and jump up 3 hours later with 'Damn! I need to pick the kids up for school... aaaaahhh *runs*)

It's a stressbuster for us, and a way to connect and hang out some together.  We play sitting side by side when he's at home, which makes it less stressful for me when he's out in the field, since we are still hanging out together... (I sometimes pretend he's just sitting in the other room, I'm such a goofball)...

*hugs*

He does play FFXI, I've been learning, but not playing yet.  we can't do it while he's gone though.  Internet time over there is short, and expensive.  thanks for the suggestion though!  The little time is does get online is to send and recieve emails and try to catch me or someone else on AIM.  the laptop does not have internet on it, they are not allowed due to unsecure lines and such.  He has to go to a lab to get online.
