Humane societies always need blankets. I always donate blankets to mine here even if they are full sized.

Nice!
I just contacted my local Humane Society the other day, and asked them which blanket sizes they use most, so I could be sure to make ones they need most. In addition to the sizes listed on The Snuggle Project (14 x 14, 24 x 24, 36 x 36), they also said that 14" x 24" would be useful to them.

I was just readin this thread and decided its something I should do, too! I'm sure with the tons of fabrics I have that I'll be able to sew a few blankies for them. It takes me about a month or so to even make a scarf so i will not even try to knitt a blanket.

I'm so glad I saw this again!
My Brownie Troop wants to do a service project with animals with our cookies $ :-).
Yea! We planned on making dog treats with
spreadthebread.com
(spread the biscuits is the dog part)
and cat toys with
operationhappysock.com
but this would be great too!!!
And as long as fleece/no tie blankets are ok, I'm in :-).
By the way, my son who just turned 5 wants to learn how to crochet! I have to figure it out so I can teach him! I used to know how...

This sounds like a great organization! I don't know how to do any of that, though. I suppose I could make fleece ones and just sew the edges, but I'd prefer to knit/crochet. How could I learn to Crochet or knit? My aunt knows how to knit, but being a guy, that would be kind of weird asking my aunt how to knit, haha. So is there like a book of some type that could teach me?

There are LOTS of books out there. Literally hundreds, plus DVDs, etc. Most craft stores, continuing education programs, and recreation departments also offer classes. For example, I teach crochet at the Jo-Ann's where I work.
But I actually learned from a book!
I recommend
"I Can't Believe I'm Crocheting"
or
"I Can't Believe I'm Knitting."
(ooh they updated them... good. The projects were soooo '80s. LOL)
Online Crochet resources:
http://crochet.about.com/library/blbeginners.htm
http://www.anniesattic.com/crochet/content.html?type_id=S
Online Knitting resources:
http://knitting.about.com/od/learntoknit/a/begin_knit.htm
http://www.anniesattic.com/knitting/content.html?type_id=S
There's lots more out there, but these sites are both very reliable.

I should add, making Snuggles is GREAT practice for the beginner... doggies and kitties don't see mistakes, they just see "warm."
You could make 12" x 12" squares for practice, and donate those.

You're right, I've never thought of that, so it doesn't really matter what they look like, eh?
And also, I found this great video online where this excellent lady teaches you how to knit!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzz5QR0HG0E
is where the videos is. Theres two of them, and they're VERY helpful. I'm going to go get the supplies as soon as I can, and start up! I'll just be a "closet Knitter", being a boy, it would be kinda embarrassing if people outside of my family, and even some people inside of my family knew I knit.

A friend of mine is recuperating from CPT surgery, and before he flexes his wrist and arm, he spends 20 minutes crocheting. (his mother gave him a wine box full of random yarns) I asked him to give the Snuggles Project a look, and he said, "Animals would appreciate my horrid 'scarves' and 'potholders' better than any human."

I have a knitting group at a local teen organization and most of the people that attend are boys! Girls love a boy who can knit, it means he's good with his hands! lol

This is a great project! I just found some yarn to knit, but I can't find my needles.
As soon as I find them I'll get right on to knitting!
Edit: I found my needles, I'm going to start today!

Yeah, I owe my Mom money, and shes taking all my allowance until its paid off. Once it's done and I get money, then I can start! it should be about 4 more weeks until I get money, then 4 more to save up enough.

I'd love to help, but I don't quite understand how it works. So you make the blanket, fill out the forum < I got that much. But then do you send just the forum to the address below the forum thing, or do you like send the blanket?
^This may be a dumb question haha

You take the form and the blankets to your local animal shelter. It's a national program that promotes local action.
