My babies are rescues. I totally understand the impulse at buying those gorgeous, shy, sad ferrets and PetSmart, PetCo, etc. I don't harrass anyone who buys one and takes care of them properly. However, I do say PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE consider rescuing a ferret. The same as rescuing a rat, cat, dog, etc. How about buying one and rescuing two??? Ferret math, rat math, cat math? I'm not into posting sad or ugly newstories or websites, but with the popularity of ferrets as of late, I just hope this hits home for ONE person considering a ferret. Just one.

Rats, a Girls Best Friend

I believe in rescuing ferrets too, even tho i bought my last 2, Peek is a rescue who was abused, and Kodo and Podo (Both together on the other side now) were rescues as well. They passed on this summer after being with me for a year. They were 5 years old and fed Kaytee ferret food, for those who dont know this stuff, it ranks like 2 or 3 out of 10 on the ferret food scale) and they were very tiny and always felt fragile from being malnoursihed. Im just happy i gave them a year of love and good food which they didnt have before. Its that feeling that makes rescuing so great.

I recently took in a ferret, named Molly, who was given to a young girl from her mothers boyfriend. When they broke up she gave the ferret back and he kept it in a bacement at his work. A woman took her and asked if i could help, shes now in a loving home by me who loves her to bits and now she has everything. Everything they showed her was new to her, its such a process to watch. Also this is my friend 2nd ferret, and hes adores her. Shes got a brother now, yup all worth it!

I run a ferret rescue and you just wouldn't believe how many ferrets are surrendered to shelters/rescues every day.
We've heard every story in the book. And then there are the ferrets that just get dumped at the county/city kill shelters. Luckily, the one here always calls us when they get a ferret in so we can come pick it/them up.
Right now we have 36 permanent shelter residents. Ferrets that are elderly, ill or special needs and cannot be adopted out.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that this is my friend Kim who I talk about all the time and who helped me get Ernie. She's the best and has lots of great advice. I've also introduced her to ratties and now she has 3 of her own. I think I have "created a monster" he, he In any case, Welcome Kim! Glad to have you here with us!
