Hi!

i've been interested in fostering a ferret (or three) in the Philadelphia area.  I recently lost one of my two to adrenal disease, and i'm a bit worried about leaving the other one by herself.  she had never bonded with the other one, but i think she's still lonely, and i thought that fostering would be a great way to help out, since i'm not really interested in adopting another one right now.  if the current ferret bonds with the foster, i'd be willing to adopt for her sake (and for that of the ferret that i'd be fostering).  it's been really hard trying to find places that will give me a foster.  any suggestions?  thanks!

Hey Hack, check out this link: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/PA279.html  Hope that helps, they say that they really need foster homes.  There is/used to be a shelter called Semper Fi Ferrets litterally right around the corner from my house, but her site has been down now for a while so I don't know what's up.  Last year I had emailed her and she said she was doing renovation and didn't have any rescues at the moment... but like I said that was a year ago.  I had been hoping to help out myself somehow, if only just visiting to handle and socialize the ferrets.  Well, good luck!  Also, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Sad

PS - here is the main site for the ferret club: http://www.ferretclub.com/

Ratwings,
thanks for the info.  i checked out a bunch of places in the area, but they all either don't do foster programs, or they require me to become a member of their club and be in good standing for 3 months before i can even be considered for a foster home.  i decided they seemed like was too much of a pain, so i'm actually going to get some (i think) from some people in MD (Rocky's Ferret Rescue and Shelter).  They are really excited that i want them, so i'm hoping that it'll turn out ok.  They apparently have another volunteer that works in this area, so hopefully, i'll get the new furkids in the next couple of weeks.  it's been a really frustrating experience because it has been so difficult to get anyone to email me back.  then, if they do email me back, they're really weird about who can get fosters.  but i'm pinning my hope on Rocky's Rescue right now.  they seemed thrilled that i want them.  thanks for your concern about my other one, he'll be much missed

Hmmm, that's really weird that they were giving you a hard time about fostering.  Seems like if they were so overwhelmed with animals they wouldn't be so uptight about it.  Oh well, you're getting your own ferrets now so who cares? lol  Hope that works out and you get your new slinkybutts soon!

Yeah, i'm just really glad that Rocky's is more reasonable about their fosters.  they do want to see my house, but that's ok.  come and check out the bathroom for all i care (it's where my furkid's cage is located).  so hopefully i'll have the fosters in a bit!
