ok, so i don't know a whole lot about ferrets, they're adorable, but not for me.  i have a friend with a ferret, though.  i just gave her an old ferret cage that i don't need for my rats anymore.  it's 24"x24"x48" with three full levels.  my friend is talking about gettin more ferrets, like two or three more....  i don't know, but to me, four ferrets in that cages seems a bit much.  they do get lots and lots of out time, but still..... what do y'all think?  how many ferrets would this cage comfortabley hold?

I don't know anything about ferrets, but the rat cage calculator says 8 rats for that cage. And ferrets are way bigger than just two rats put together. I always say the bigger the better. Also, if she can't/won't buy a bigger cage for her ferrets, then does she have/would she find the money for vet bills should they need attention?

It is mostly likely large enough for 3 and possibly four depending on how many hammocks and sleeping areas she gives them. It isnt as important for ferrets to have lots of cage room because usually they only eat, sleep, and go potty in there. They reserve their playing for their out time and if they get plenty like you say, it shouldn't be a problem. Remember that ferrets can sleep up to 22 hours a day depending on their age. They just need lots of t-shirts or sweatshirts to dig around and bundle up in. I hope I was helpful!

i know how many rats it would hold, i used it to house rats.  and she has a vet fund set aside for her ferret.   i no longer needed the cage and thought i'd give it to her.  would you rather i had thrown it away?  i don't know where you'd gotten that she couldn't afford a new cage and couldn't afford to care for her ferret.  even if you weren't actively looking for a new cage, would you turn a free one down?  i wouldn't.

thank you jenny, for your much more helpful reply.  right now she only has the one, truely spoiled ferret.  she was talking about adopting another one, maybe two, her husband was thinking three.  her computer's out right now, so i told her i'd see what i could find out about cage size for her.  so thank you for your help.

I'm so sorry, I really didn't mean to sound that way. I probably really shouldn't be posting in bed with the flu, it really makes everything I do come out with a hint of hating life. I didn't mean to say that she didn't have financial means, and I know you know how many rats it would hold  and I think you're really wonderful for offering her a free cage. Sorry, it was a really bad, bitter night and I really feel awful  Sad I shouldn't have even responded because, you're totally right, I have no idea of her circumstances and I was only really operating on a low level last night. I'm sorry Sad Sad Sad

I have a cage about that size for my three ferrets. Mine might be a little bigger, but I don't think by much. But it works well for them, because all they do in the cage is sleep, eat and poop. They have most of the day to run around the house, and it works very well for them.

My 5 ferrets are housed in 2 Martin's cages joined together which are 36 X 24 X 36. They have lots of linens and 4 hammocks.
