"Which way did he go, George, which way did he go?

At some point tonight I go to pick up my first Ferret. All I know about him is that he's healthy, 8 weeks old, a male who is vaccinated, neutered and de-scented, and he's mine, mine, MINE!

Ahem. Anyway--this is my first ferret, and I have no name for him yet. I figure he'll help me come up with one once I get him here and spend some time with him. For now, it's only one ferret: but there will be a second one down the road in a few weeks.

I will post pictures of him as soon as I get my hands on the digital camera, which MIGHT be tonight, but if not, then this weekend for sure.

congrats on your new baby!  i bet you're so excited!  do you have everything else you need for him?  what type of cage do you have?  what are you going to feed him (marshall's baaaaad), what type of litter are you gonna use?  and of course, lots and lots of pics are a must!

Thanks! And yes, I am. Suddenly time is moving so much SLOWER, as I know when I'll be leaving the house.

a) Have I got everything: Not everything, no.
b) Whattype of cage: The cage is a homemade ferretproof design. It's NOT metal-only, though, it's coated. He'll be in here when we're not home, cause I don't want to play 'find the ferret' Wink
c) What type of food: It's called 'Chicken soup for the kitten's soul'
d) What type of litter: 'Yesterday's news'

My brother's Girlfriend has three ferrets, and she's going to go with me to pick out some toys and an appropriate harness set. My bedroom has already been ferret-proofed, right down to filling the 'crawl space' between the dresser and the wall. I'm sure he'll find places I've missed, so I'm thinking I'll leave leash and harness on for the first while as he explores.

is there anything you can think of that I will need besides the cage, litter, food and toys?

it sounds like you've got a good start.
i recommend mixing a few different types of kibble, though.  ferrets "imprint" on a food while young, and if that food becomes unavailible, then it's almost impossible to get them to eat anything else.  but if they're introduced to a variety of foods as kits, then they're less picky as adults!  a couple of highly recommended ferret foods are totally ferret and zupreem.  innova just put out a ferret food, too, but it's very pricey and not much different than their evo cat food.  my current mix is zupreem, chicken soup, and innova evo.

www.ferretvillage.org is an awsome site!  any question you might have, you'll probibly find the answer there!

good luck with your new boy and i can't wait to see pictures!
