Ok.. Here is the "start" of this whole story.... I have a friend who was asked to foster 2 ferrets... and The owner said she would be back for them in a month.. well 2 months went past and they didnt return for them... several phone calls later we came to the conclusiong she needed to find them a perm home.grant it in the time she had them her one of her  ferrets bonded to them ( he was givin to her also the old owner was gonna give him to a chef to be made into food). as to give them  the proper care and att. she didnt find it fair to the 2 when she had 5 of her own to care for... so I was talking to a old highschool friend.. and she said how she wanted to adopt a ferret and I though WOW what perfect timeing ... So i suggested her to my friend.. They exchanged phone calls and it was decided she would make a great home for the fuzzy's. well itt was set,, my friend had to work.. so she asked me to take the ferrets over to the girls house and I did. along with MY extra cage... MY ferrets hammies (i had just made them new) AND my spare waterbottle and even some of my food and my friends food.. MORE Than enough to last her a few weeks. and she also made the hard decision to send her ferret also who bonded with these 2 ferrets.. wich i thought was a totaly heart felt thing.. to give up one of your beloved pets to ensure the happyness of 2 ferrets that were not even yours.
well I soon found out this was a big mistake...  I Was talking to my friend "Pam" and She said she saw "karen" at a local pet store and told her about these 3 ferrets she recieved... then starts to say OMG THEY WERE ON CAT FOOD. my vet said she's killing the ferrets and something should be done. and are so sickly its not funny.. I"m having thoughts of turning her in.. she already has 8 ferrets and 5 kids.. she cant possibly care for 8 ferrets properly with 5 kids.. (now mind u the 8 ferrets and 5 kids part is refernce to ME!!).  "karen" didnt know "pam" knew rite away she was talking about me.  so she called me up after she left the store and told me what she had said.  I nearly fell out of my chair.. But after throwing my fits to my friend "Laura" (the girl who was fostering") and her deciding to Call the girl to fallow up on how they are.. I calmed down.. SHe wanted to give her some time to get to know them first and see fo rourselfs if she did indeed say these things.

Now Yesterday "PAM" sends me a email from a local Freecycle board.. Were both members.. it's a place where if you have stuff you dont want you can advertise it for someone to come take.  well she gets THIS in her email .. (**Mind THis is posted in a  public LOCAL forum.. where several ppl know me and know the story of these 3 ferrets ... and I may add.. the "conditions" they were givin to her in is false.. She was told how sick they were when my friend got them. and were 80% better when she recieved them**))

This chick is realy gonna get it from me.. I do not apreciate ppl saying I or my friend abused them ferrets.. and these "issues" she states they have are totaly untrue.. and what the heck is up with the bad habit of Chasing humans... HELLO MINE CHASE US FOR FUN DUMMIE!!!!!
sorry had to get this out but I didther a too nice reply.. and I am gona go to her house tomarrow if i ccan and demand my cage back as soon as she gets this one she " is puttin on lay away" ..
she told us she had AMPLE money to care for these ferrets.. and I believed her beacuse she was a friend from school and I knew she and her husband had a job.. that and she's the one who is gonna "turn me in" for feedin cat food.

my other ferret pal from this freecycle board andI have a plan to possibly confront her... Were gonna have her come to my friends to get some of the requested stuff and i'm gonna be there and shock the crap out of her with So we abused them ferrets eh?

I recently took into my heart and home 3 rescue ferrets. This has
been a labor of love for me and it is working. When Bear, Kipper and
Pepper came to me they had many issues health and behavior wise.
Sense then we have come a long way. In the approx. 4 weeks we have
had our new babies i have spend over 300.00 dollars on them. We are
looking for anyone who may have ferret supplies they are thinking of
retiring. tubes, toys, Bandits Treats, Ferotone, Ferovite, Hamocks
and such. We recently put a ferret condo on layaway. If you have
cages that can be combined we would take those as well. Just a
reminder: Rescue animals of any kind take much care and
considerations. Generally they reqire more love and attention to
socialize properly, they have behavior issues you may not want to
deal with and they have fully developed personalities. My ferret
adopties are wonderfull but i knew they were abused/neglegted. My
female came to me as a bitter and she still shakes uncontrollably
when we pick her up. She no longer bites. The males learned
inappropriet play behaviors we are trying to break like chasing
humans. Rescues are a labor of love but the rewards of their undying
devotion to my family is all i have ever needed. Please consider all
i have said befor you adopt a rescue of any kind but never rule them
out. They have all the love one person can need.

Oh man I'm past angry... I'm boardering Irrate!!.  My friend who orginaly had the ferrets is gonna call her this week as if she has no clue what is going on to "check" up on them.. then see what she says.. and if she "plays dumb" she's gonna call her out on it..


I have my plans.. It intails making a few hammies to take to my ferret friend who i met on this same board (she's also beyond mad).. she's gonna offer the hammie's to her.. and have her meet her at HER house.. and i'm gonna be there "visiting" and I'm gonna confront her.  Only way I know she'll meet with me after that not so nice reply i sent to her.

I can see looking for this and that items.. but slandering the pervious ppl who did the rite thing for the ferrets by adopting them out and making false accuations. is wrong.. and doing so just proly to make ppl feel bad for her or them and hand her suplies...
dang wish i could just have my suplies handed to me.. but i dont. i go out and work hard to get the stuff myself.. I dont just go lookin for something unless i totaly can not buy it..

like i did to find the rat cages.. I only did it for their safty as the cages i had wer not safe.  but i sure didnt slander someone to get them

that's ridiculous... shaking uncontrolably when picked up is NOT a fear thing. Ferrets shiver like that when they are excited. and my female still bites a little... but only in play.. a little nippy is all to get us to chase her. and the boys always chase me, especially Dom, that is just how they play...

Oh, and that lady wouldn't like me very much... because I feed my ferrets cat food too... but not a cheap brand, one that is actually good for them. It doesn't have to say ferret on the bag for it to be good ferret food...

she states that she spent 300 as if that was a phenomenol ammount. i can spend that much without a thought on a single rat to make sure they have the best possible hospital care each time they are sick (tho that is usually just for tumor removal).

i just hope she doesn't have some version of munchousins (sp?). if she does she will never see what she is doing as wrong. instead, everyone else will always be wrong and she will say something like "why are you attacking me... everyone is always against me..."

i would be very afraid that she might hurt the ferrets. after all, how is she training them not to chase people.

finally, my parents had five children (i am the youngest) and we have had a variety of pets. and we were by no means rich. but the fact that i will go all out for my animal kids proves that number of children has no bearing on anything.

Ok she has now replyed to me.. and denyed everything she said in the first post.  saying she never said any of them were biters.. and still has yet to answer me on the hole "inapro. chase human" statement.  she even now agree's that not EVERY Ferret thrives on the same food and no one person's way of feeding is rite or wrong..

most her "advice" she gve me in her new message was like it's out of a book.  , she also went as far to post a amendment to her first post "clearing" up the "missunderstanding"
if you ask me she saw the ppl she was Slandering found out and now is covering her butt

After caring for more than 65 ferrets in the past 15 years(And presently have 11), I have found it strange, if not unsettling, NOT to be chased by my babies. (Usually, if one isn't "chasing" me, it's due to illness).

Ferrets also shiver for a while when picked up right after they wake. This is not an unusual occurrance.

Cat food, according to the rescue in our state, is fine, so long as it's has sufficient protien, and the majority of it's first ingredients are mostly meat and/or meat by products. We've had ours eating Purina for years, and they've been healthy all along. (We do, however, supplement the cat chow with a bag of ferret chow...1:1 ratio, just to be sure they are getting all they need, as well as other supplements.)

and here I am feeding my ferret a mix of both cat and ferret food..   Just because it shows a ferret on the bag doesn't mean it's good for them...  same can be said for ANY pet food.  I could buy a bag of cat food from the dollar store, but that doesn't mean you should ever feed it to a cat.

and yeah.. ferrets will shake when you pick them up anyway.  it does sound like she just wants to look better to others

I'm sorry that you had such a negative experience while trying to do something so positive. Try to focus on what you were trying to do for the ferrets who appreciated your help rather than on the person's bad behavior. I agree that she is just trying to make someone else bad to make herself look better and she's making herself look pretty ignorant in the process. Nothing you can say about or to her would be anymore condemming that the obvious lack of basic knowledge that she has about ferrets. Try to let it go. She's not worth fretting over.

You have alreadyreceived a lot of good information from the other posts, but I will throw in my 2 cents worth.

Yes, ferrets DO chase humans and I, too, would worry if they didnt. Our first ferret, Wesley, would beg you to chase him, would run and then hide around a corner for you to come find him and then start to chase you! It was hilarious!

Secondly, ferrets shake frequently, especially when waken up because they are trying to adjust their body temperature, again perfectly normal ferret behavior.

Thirdly, I feed mine Superior Choice Ferret Food, from the FerretStore.com but a high quality cat food with lots of protein is perfectly acceptable. In fact, many shelters mix ferret food with cat food on a routine basis. If it's good enough for the "experts" it's good enough for me.

Don't let this person discourage you from continuing to do good. Every animal we help appreciates our efforts even if the people don't. Good job for trying!

I'm a tad bit late for this board, so please forgive me.

With that that, WHAT!?!? THAT has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. For one thing, she makes it sound like rescue animals have some sort of malfunction to them. There are cases where some need a bit more caring than others, but a good portion of the time, rescues are simply animals that an owner could no longer take care of and had to surrender. That doesn't mean they were ever neglected or have some sort of behavior complex against people that needs GOD'S HOLY LIGHT to heal them! What a bimbo!

Chasing people inapropriate!? That's how they play with each other! They are trying to bring you into their games and treat you as another ferret! I do this with my ferret all the time and the most damage it's ever done is piss off the neighbors downstairs! Also, she needs to stop with the BIG NOBLE SPEECH as a way for people to feel sorry for her and throw her their supplies for free. That has to be the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. Man. People piss me off.
