...and have a question.

We've had a ferret accident here at our house and lost one of our beloved babies. We're having him cremated tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone had experience with pet urn sizes and ferrets.

I can't tell the story of our loss again---I'm still hurting too much. But, for those who'd like to read about it, please feel welcome to visit my blog and see Maxwell in life.

Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

Anne, in mourning.

Thank you for your kind words. The pain is beginning to dull---and it helps to see his sister and the rest of the gang playing and continuing to live life to the fullest.

If it helps others out there in their time of need, we ended up ordering a keepsake-size urn, which is large enough for Maxwell's ashes, but requires that we remove them from the bag they were put in by the crematorium. Also, the brass plate which identifies the remains won't fit in this tiny urn. Had we known the funeral home would put him in a classy wooden box, we might not have purchased the urn. We're still deciding what we want to do.

Now that my knee-jerk desire to keep my babies in the cage except for play-time has passed, I still would like to suggest caution---we must be ever vigilant for dangers new and interesting to our fuzzy friends. The tube Maxwell fell into was one we knew they could run through---they love this tube, so I wasn't concerned about it. However, when still holding many pounds worth of Catpaper and standing on a wooden entertainment center, his curiosity led to a fall that killed him.

I don't think I'll ever forgive myself for not seeing the danger. But I will remember and try to see new dangers before another fur-baby is lost to us.

Maxwell has gone over the Rainbow Bridge...and has rejoined some friends he knew before. My mother's ferrets, Mousey, Husker's and Weazy are all waiting for him, as is our cat Heinlein. And maybe, our MIA ferret, Kittanning? I wish I knew.

Anne.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't blame yourself, ferrets are the best at finding what they aren't supposed to play with, even if you ferret proofed a billion times. It wasn't your fault at all, it was just a bad accident *hugs*

 Sad

So sorry for your loss!!!!
HUGS!
I have no experience with cremation -  my ferrets are all buried in our backyard - with the dogs & cats.

Try not to feel too guilty - of course if you thought the tube was dangerous - you would never have left it out like that! And he'd been in there before!
