Subject: Needs List from Lori Sies

* Permission to Crosspost Granted *

I just spoke with Lori Sies and asked her to tell me what she needs so
folks could start sending stuff to help. Lori has 600 ferrets right
now
and will be getting another 250 next weekend. Yes, ferrets ARE moving
out of there, but when they go 20 and 30 at a time, it's seems slow.

Here's how YOU can directly help Lori Sies and the DM kids:

1. Fleece scraps - 8" x 18". She does NOT have time to cut them so
they
must be pre-cut to that dimension.

2. Throw away bedding. I know shelters all over the country have old
throw away bedding. Any kind -- sacks, hammies, whatever.

3. Lori has used alot of her good shelter bedding on the Mckay ferrets
because she had to. It would be nice if we could replenish her shelter
bedding stock as a small token of our gratitude.

4. KIBBLE: Totally Ferret, Zupreem or Path Valley ONLY.

5. Litter: No big surprise here. Lori buys her litter from Cinncinati
Lab Supply at 513-941-3343. I spoke with Mike this morning and briefed
him on what's going on. He was kind enough to offer to contact Zupreem
to see if they would donate food (YAY!!!!, what a nice guy!) and said
that ferret folks could call him and donate litter to Lori, using a
credit card. She uses Cellsorb, 40 lb bag, cost: $13.77 each. They
will
be delivering to her NEXT THURSDAY, 9/27/07, just in time for the next
batch of DM furkids.

She also needs trash bags, paper towels, bleach, laundry detergent
and cleaner. Those people that are driving out to get ferrets or
to volunteer -- bring these items with you, or consider donating a
Walmart or Target card so lori can use it to purchase those things.

Please send your donations to:

Lori Sies
Ferrets Dream House Shelter
845 Tulip Road
Lynx, OH 45650

Thank you for helping Lori and all of the DM kids. Let's hope they get
to their new homes as quickly as possible.

At this time I am assisting Lori with emails so she is able to devote
immediate attention to the needs of these rescued ferrets and we can
be
faster at replies to those people that need an immediate reply . I try
to condense the list so that Lori can get through the news of each day
faster than individual emails. So if I can be of any help please email
me at the above address.

I do have both Adoption contracts for individuals and shelters and
will
be more than glad to attach them in an email to you.

The contracts that were sent out from Lori, were a general bulk mail
to
all individuals and shelters. Believe me, Lori, as a non profit
shelter
herself, realizes what it is to be a shelter and the limited funds
available. The Shelter contract states a donation, it does not have a
certain amount listed nor what the donation is to be. The main purpose
is to find homes for these rescues and help is needed in all different
aspects. Yes, a PayPal account was listed for those that were able to
send something no matter what the amount might be. S.O.S. was
contacted
today regarding the Shelter Contract.

Yesterday, I was helping out with the rescued ferrets and it was just
an unbelievable site and the needs tremendous.

At the present time, the ferrets are being housed in the cages that
they were transported in from the McKay farm.

Cages - A top priority is to obtain cages for these guys and of course
all that is needed for these cages.

Water Bottles- The water bottles are difficult to fit onto the cages
they are in at the present time. Also in just a very short time, 5
days
- these guys have learned that not only can they get some water from
this contraption but they can also play with the bottles and try to
move them around. Somewhat of an endless task to fill, re-hang and
re-fill. Smart little devils.

Food - Yes, these little ones eat and eat and eat. All they have to do
is hear Lori filling the food cup to be distributed to each cage and
they make a beeline to that food dish. As I said before, smart little
devils.

I do not have the answers to the questions posed by Sukie and I truly
feel that Lori is the only one that could answer them informatively. I
am sure it will be soon when they will all be answered but for now
this
is the best that I can do.

Having said all of the above, I hope it helps others get some insight
as to the happenings going on with the rescued ferrets.

A heartfelt thanks to all that have been so positive and ready to help
in whatever way they can for the betterment of these ferrets. For all
t
hat have set aside all the differences for now, God Bless You All.

Cindy

I know it's mostly a rat list, but I also know that there are lots of people with other animals. These people are doing a wonderful thing and really need your help! Thank you!

I do not understand -- is her rescue always this full or is there a particular rescue operation going on now, Arlene? Is there a website we could go to for more info?

I hear that Rocky's ferret rescue is getting 250 someodd of these rescue ferrets as well? (that place is near Baltimore just so everyone else knows).  I can probably donate to Rocky's a bit easier.... apparently they use the same ferret vet I do.

They're from a rescue from what I understand, and are very bitey, unfixed (some with babies), and not tested for ADV yet.

Here is a link to a UTube video that tells the story. It's very graphic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eADmummyIkY

I'll post more as I get it.

So Rocky's is taking in 250? I have a friend who is going to adopt a few of these babies. She's in Philly so that's probably where they will come from.

Apparently, they have gotten all the ferrets out of there now. Thank Goodness! Most are going to be difficult to place though with no socilization and everything they have been through. It is going to take a lot of ferret savy people to help them be adoptable. Regardless, they still need help.

BTW, DT I can't find anything about Rocky's taking some of them. Where did you hear this?

I foster with Rocky's, and yes, we're getting 200-250 from the folks in Ohio.  We are in dire need of supplies and help this weekend when our "installment" arrives.  Our shelter normally has around 40 ferrets, so this will be quite an adjustment.  Hopefully, a large portion of those ferrets will disperse to other smaller shelters in the area to spread the load around a bit, but they will all be at Rocky's until their ADV testing is complete.  There will be pregnant moms, babies, un-neutered boys...anything and everything.  I'm sure Barb Clay would be very very very happy to recieve any donations to help with these guys.

From the Rocky's message board:

If anyone is able to, the shelter is getting ready for the incoming of perhaps as many as 250 ferrets.

We need disposable bedding; ie, towels, sweatshirts, etc.
Papertowels
Cardboard boxes... ya know like at the petstore, where they just cut away most of the box and left all the cans sitting in it. Think disposable litter boxes.
Contractor strength 40 gl garbage bags
Wood Pellets

Anyone and everyone is welcome to come set up the portable garages, set up carriers for the transport, set up cages to receive the ferrets and all that good stuff. We will be doing all of this Sat and Sun. Let me know.

Thanks for the info, NR! I was considering making a donation. Maybe I should send it to Rocky's instead. BTW, Costco would probably be a great place to get boxes. They have a lot of the ones that look like the high back litter boxes. I'll bet that would work too.

I wish I could foster some of them but I am a foster mom for 4Paws cat rescue and still have a mama cat and kittens here. I don't have the time and space for the ferrets too.

I might be able to help transport if someone can get them a little further south, I could transport from NVA down the 95 corridor at least as far as Richmond or along the 66 corridor down to Virginia Beach and the surrounding areas.

Our ferrets from the DMK rescue are supposed to be in PA tomorrow. It will be a few weeks until we get to bring them home though due to quarantine and necessity of at least one distemper before they come to our crazy zoo of a home.  Wink Ferrets are being transported all over the US in order to shelter and hopefully rehome as many as possible. Domating to MFRAN or a local shelter will be much appreciated. The shelter that is arranging our furkids is in PA, and the owner keeps me posted. The situation of all those ferrets is awful. And to boot, DMK is suing MFRAN and others! The posts I have been forwarded are bittersweet. One talked about a hob that joy danced like mad when in a playpen for the first time with a soft quilt under his feet. When the lady picked him up, he allowed her to put him into a small carrier and was sad as she did it. He is now in a shelter in the Northeast and dancing away. The story made me cry. There are TONS of individual stories, and every dollar helps DMK ferrets and/or any ferrets in need in safe havens. Some of the ferrets are unsure how to walk on floors. They only knew tiny wire boxes as home. Please donate, even if it's only a $ or two. It will be sooo appreciated by any involved!

I was crying at the second sentence of that video. How could anyone in their right mind let it get that bad. I actually hope that the man involved gets some mental help. Breaks my freakin heart and makes me so furious. Keep us updated okay. I will try and donate as soon as I can. Does anyone know if any NC shelters/rescues are helping out.

I really don't want to watch a sad video, as I get upset easily. Can you summarize what happened?

Someone had a breeding stock of ferrets and he called a rescue saying he couldn't feed them or take care of them. That was back in November. In January the rescue showed up and there were over 700 ferrets in small wire boxes/filthy conditions. All lined up outside in what looked like freezing cold temps (snow on the ground).
