HI! There is a sweet heart of a ferret at this pet store near me who loves to play and sleep on his back in my arms! With in the first 10 minutes he was giving kisses and in the first 20 minutes he was asleep in my arms! I went there at 3:00 yesterday and can't stop thinking about him. I have researched ferrets about 5 years and have enough time to play with one and care for it. I even have enough money right now! But my mom said no because I have three rats already and she thinks thats enough. Well she said I could get one after my rats died, but thats not for awhile and I mean you don't want to look forward to something after your beloved pets die! I can't bear the thought of the litte ferret getting bought by someone who gives it to their kids and then dumps it at a shelter! I just don't know what to do. I have thought about rescuing him from the pet store and then finding him a good home, but I know I can't do that because I am so attached already. So I guess the big questions here are:

Should I try to convince my mom?how?
Should I wait?
If I shouldn't get him or can't, how can help him?

Thank you so much!

P.S. It took me 4 years to convince my mom to let me get a pet. I wanted a ferret or rabbit, but she said to get rats so I did and I love them very much! Anyways I clean the whole basement by myself once a week, babysit for another family twice a week and keep my bedroom clean. I have offered to clean the whole house by myself without pay, but that didn't work. The rats were my only presents for my birthday, but thats 6 monthes away so a little to soon to get a ferret as my only b-day present. Again thank you so much!

Unfortunately, if you can't convince your parents, I don't think there's much you can do other than spread the word that he's available to other ferret lovers who may be looking. Too bad, he seems like such a sweet guy, and I know how frustrating it can be when your parents won't allow you to have the pet you want (I wanted ferrets for so many years and my mom was totally against it. Eventually I got them when I moved out, but now I realize that was ideal, considering she would have complained about them being out of the cage, accidents on the floors, ect and they wouldn't have had as good a life).  Just be happy you have the rats, some people aren't even that lucky Smiley

You really do sound very mature, and responsible. You probably are ready for a ferret of your own. Unfortunately being a minor you have to have your moms permission. Sometimes parents are very unreasonable about these things. If you can't convince her to let you have it, then there really isn't much you can do. The best you can hope for is that someone will purchase him, that will love and care for him.

Also. since you've done your research, you know ferrets do best in pairs at least. Best option, if you really want to help, would be to check shelters and rescues, instead of pet stores (Unless there are no weasels available, then the store is your only, and usually most expensive, option) Good luck
