well ferrets and rats dont get along of course I knew that

well I had my ferrets out today I just got two babies from the local pet store (a great store dont worry) and the rats were in there big cage... so anyways my ferret hobbes was lookin in the cage when my rat lita charged the front of the cage and bit hobbes on the nose... gave my little boy a good cut on his nose and it started to bleed well I immediatly cleansed it and made sure it stopped bleeding... he is sleepin on my lap right now... ussually he has too much energy to do that but I can tell it shook him up... I keep a close eye but I didnt think that was going to happen... guess I will have to watch more carefully next time.... gave me a good scare tho... rat bites are nothing to take easy I know how bad they can hurt

I worry about my ratties and ferrets even being in the same room.  My b/f put a rat cage with one of my males in it (he doesn't like to share and prefers to be on his own..that was fun to learn the hard way) and I freaked out, I believe just the smell of each other stresses them out and I make sure they are in completely different rooms at all times. but then again I'm a little anal-retentive. HA!

yeah there in the same room... we have a "pet" room lol.... I just couldnt believe it lol... he is fine now...

Good to hear, I had to have a trip to the hospital for when my largest male (who's by himself now) got my finger.  He was being introduced to some of my younger males and was making such a fuss about being so close to another male i went to go pick him up and he didn't relize it was me, and he turned suddenly to bite and realized it was me didn't actually bite me, but his tooth caught the soft skin on the bottom knuckle of my index finger and went into my joint!  My finger swelled like a balloon and it wasn't infected!  Ratties can cause some pretty ridiculous cuts!  But i know he didn't mean to do it, because the second after he did he ran up the front of me onto my shoulder!

You may want to get some coroplast (plastic version of corrugated cardboard or some 1/4 inch wire mesh for covering up the rat cage if you intend to keep letting the weasels out in the pet room.  Or put the rat cage up on a table.  I've had a rat lose an entire toe climbing on another rat's cage, trust me, you don't want to go there.  Ferrets love to climb, and climbing a wire cage would mean the ferret's wiggly toes are inside the rat's cage where they can be bitten.  Not only that, but a ferret that's climbing and being bitten is likely to let go and fall, creating a whole slew of possible injuries.  An ounce of prevention....

well I put the cage up on a table now called the rat table... lol so that solved that

and the ferret will kill your rat given the chance. I know mine would.
