I did something I almost never do and brought home two boy rats from the bins. Unfortunately, I am a female household and will not keep intact males  Sad And given the threating future my personal rats and I have, I would like to find these boys a new, loving home!

Sinbad is a beautiful mink berkie boy that's about 3-4 months old. He's a bit thin and I suspect he has mites (will be treated with revolution prior to going to new home), but his breathing sounds great... and his temperament is even BETTER! He was giving me kisses in the bin and watched me the entire time, wanting to climb up and snuggle. I decided that he was too good for a snake and picked him out a friend.

Kuper the super is a darling, adventurous little PEW that's about 6-8 weeks old! I specifically picked him to go with Sinbad because of his fearless attitude and interest in being held. There is a HIGH probability that this sweet little man is going to be a himalayan! All of the older rats were smeezes/himis with no PEWs.

Since they came out of a nasty, icky bin, I will not allow them to go to their new home before the 3 week quarantine is cleared unless you have a quarantine house of your own or do not have rats currently!

Please help these boys out  Pictures coming soon!

(I'm specifically located in Kansas City, Kansas but am willing to do a bit of driving.)

PICTURES!!!

Sinny-boy

Super Kuper

I tried to get pictures of Sinbad giving kisses and bruxing but they didn't turn out too well Tongue As you can see, mister Kuper is not particularly handshy either!

Weekly Update: The boys are doing well. Kuper has crazy little brother syndrome and all into the "me too me too!" He seems to know when I'm coming and will fly out to meet me. He likes being petted and hand wrestling but isn't too sure about being picked up yet.

Sinbad is just a sweetie. His fur is so much better now that he's on good food and off nasty cedar. He's not gaining as much weight as I'd like, so I'm going to add more calories to their diet (it'll help Mr Kuper grow too). He has this funny habit he's picked up. If I put my cupped palm in there he will put both his front paws on it, lean his head down, and brux and boggle his little eyes out. He will do this repeatedly until he's either satisfied or Mr Me Too jumps in the way. Then he licks my hand like crazy.

I got some revolution and both boys will be treated for mites. They're also on some ABs for some sniffling and sneezing but both are active and eating.  Blue Dumbo Smile

Update: Ended up going back to the vet today. Kuper is pretty much fine but Sinbad is having bad resp. issues. Trying a different AB to see if that perks him up. Hopefully he'll gain some weight too. Send good vibes.

Sinbad was doing the "last rally" last night when I got home from school, so I took him to work with me and cuddled him for hours because that's all he wanted. He died earlier this afternoon. Blue Dumbo Big Eyes

This really means that Kuper will need a new home with a buddy! Kuper will be on the ABs for the next week and a half or so, then he will be ready to go, provided there are no problems. No smudges, so he might really stay a PEW. And he's growing like a weed, so I think he's going to be a big, big boy.

Kuper's doing fantastic and would really like a home with other rats! He was very shocked when he lost his cagemate, but he seems to have snapped out of it. Since I can't introduce him to my girls (for obvious reasons) and I'm out of school, he's been getting hours of hang out time. He's learning to give kisses and absolutely loves being petted and will "melt." He's not a big shoulder rat but he's learning to like being picked up.

But he really needs a friend or two! I can tell he's lonely.

Sorry, no updated pictures. My card reader went on strike.

Did you already make your trip to Rogers Ar?

Kuper looks adorable.  Of course the problem is, is I have no rats at the moment but I have been trying hard to find some in my area.

I haven't made the trip down there yet, but I have family that drives back and forth often. Unfortunately, I'm not sure when I'm going down because it was supposed to be this weekend and that fell through. I will be going down there... just not sure when... probably in June. I will be going to Tulsa (and through Rodgers) in August for sure, but that's such a long time from now.

Where are you located?

And I seem to have the opposite problem; rats everywhere! But I can't keep any more than I have.

hey there!

Im in the northwest corner of Arkansas, about 30 minutes away from Rogers.

I guess they aren't big on rats in Arkansas because I have not been able to find anyone except for our horrible local petstore that sells sick animals. Sad that sells or wants to give away rats.

Well who knows what can happen between now and June, but please do update when you make your trip down.  I might still be looking for rats.  sigh....

ICTRatgal: I've actually had a few people interested, but they all backed out. So he's still looking for a home.

Macavity: let me know if you're still looking in June. Even if Kuper's gone, I'm sure Staci from CCRR would have some kids I could transport down.

I want to add this for MaCavity that if you want rats and eveliens will help with transport at some point that I would be willing to help out with some part of the trip.  I go near Staci when I make my trips north and would be able to help out if able whent he time comes.

Well, I figured even if Kuper can't live with everyone, he could get playtime with some of my neutered boys. So I picked out the two mellowest boys and let them loose... with no results. After a few quick sniffs, Kuper was off and on his way, never paid a bit more attention to Teak and Sano. So I don't think he'll have trouble integrating with other rats.

He's a very good boy though. He's the ONLY rat I've ever had that won't chew. He doesn't chew fabric, plastic, wood, or cords. He also is good about staying where he's put and spends a lot of time out of his cage. He's working on coming when called but he seems to have trouble locating you if it's only by sight (since he's a PEW).
