After a little bit of thinking I have decided on the two story FN, no matter the price it's worth it. I do have a few other questions though.

When ferret proofing, would it be a good or bad idea to put electrical cords in foam pool noodles so they ferrets can't chew them? Or will they chew through/on the noodle or something?

Can ferrets squeeze under doors? My guess is yes =/

Do ferrets normally get along with dogs if introduced slowly and safely? And I would always have an eye on them if they were free together (if it ever got to that point).

What are some good methods for litter training. I plan on using carefresh.

Has anyone ever had issues with ferrets bothering fish? I have a 20 gallon tank with 2 goldfish in it. I would think no, the aquarium is on a stand..but you never know?

Also, how would you clip their nails? Aren't they really squirmy, how would you contain them? Or would they allow you to clip them while they are sleeping >.<? Is that even a good idea?

That's all for now, answers will be appreciated!

Thanks

I asked my mom if I could get ferrets, the first thing I told her was how expensive they were because it was my only worry. Unfortunately it would be in the best interest not to get ferrets at this time. We are saving up for a lot of things, possibly moving eventually and college for four kids ha ha. So I can't get ferrets now but I am going to try my best to get them as soon as possible. My guess is after college and what not. =/ I want to wish everyone who reads this and has/wants a ferret, good luck and enjoy them, ur luckeh!! xD I have spent time with ferrets at the store and I fell in love with them ..smell and all I love the smell of ferrets!!! :p So I know since I have wanted them as long as I have, I will hopefully get some in the future. I will be more responsible then anyway and ferrets seem to be A LOT of work. But I'm sure they are worth it!!

Since ferrets aren't for me at the moment I think I'm going to get some mice after some more research and of course making sure my parents are OK with it. xD I'm hoping to get several does. I just really would like another small animal (have had several in the past, just lost my most recent small animal a few months ago Cry) for reasons only an animal lover can understand. I have already scratched out, rabbits, guinea pigs, ratties, hamsters, hedge hogs, degus and gerbils. I have different reasons for all but I don't feel like explaining. If thread is moved I may go into more detail. Basically my only option is mice, if there is any other animal I'd be willing to take a look into them, but for now I'm sticking with mice. Although I have my doubts. The reason I can't get rats is because my mom doesn't like the idea and my dad didn't seem to fond of them he said.. I'll be getting a horse before I get rats!! Unbeleivable lol I know I am not getting a horse ..until I can afford one myself. That will be in the far future. But yeah, if they don't want rats they might not want mice!  Sad

I will be making a thread in the small animal (pocket pets) section now so yea..sorry for posting in the wrong thread.

This might need to be deleted or at least moved to the appropriate section. I have changed the subject.

Way to go!  It sounds like you have a very well thought out plan for getting your pets.  You can always get ferrets later on when you know you've got the vet bills covered.

Good luck with your mice, and if you find that you may want ferrets again in the future and are not sure you can afford the bills, you can always look into being a foster home.  Many ferret shelters need help fattening up neglected weasels or need to give the ferret time to get a health problem under control before it's able to be adopted out.  There are also older ferrets that just need a home to live out the rest of their days, and a foster home is a much better environment for these retirees than the shelter, because the busy shelter mom/dad has only so much time in the day to spend with the fuzzies.  In a foster home, they can get lots of one on one time with their foster parent and get plenty of love, scritches and playtime.  At the shelter I volunteer with, foster homes pay for food and toys, and the shelter will cover vet costs.  It's a win-win situation.  It frees up cage space and time for the shelter director, gives a ferret or two more cuddle time, and you get to have temporary ferrets that you don't pay vet bills for.  Just realize ahead of time that if they're going to be adoptable, you'll have to give them back....

Another option, when you are ready to get ferrets, is to check out local shelters and rescues. Adopting two maybe be a little cheaper than buying one... and there are always weasels looking for forever homes. ( Seems the same, no matter the species. Blue Dumbo Big Eyes)

Thank you for replying!
An update is that I found out mice probably smell pretty bad even worse than rats because rats live in more aerated houses and I would have kept mice in an aquarium. However, my parents let me get some rats!! I have wanted some for awhile (a few years) not as long as ferrets but they are still aw some pets. I am so glad I got them! I still plan on getting ferrets probably when I'm married (if I get married) or just when I can fully support myself and probably have my own home/apartment or something.

edit: Before I said rats were out, they were. My parents were totally against rats but I slowly talked them into getting some.  Roll Eyes What mainly helped was when I begged my mom to let me at least hold a rat at the pet store for my b-day lol. I seriously wanted to at least hold one, so we did and I still wanted one and then my mom got interested! So that was probably where my luck turned. Two days later we went to shop for supplies and came home with 2 rats even though my dad only wanted one. (I was planning on adopting 1 lone one or talking my dad into 2 then adopting) My mom ..talked me into getting 2 at the store so my dad would be forced into saying yes to 2. I posted a long story in rat care section of rats rule forum if interested. Also pictures in the rats tails and mug shots.
