Mousie doesn't have the money for another 4 years of school, and she has had some major life changes and doesn't really care too much for her major anymore anyway.

I'm working on getting my associates degree for vet tech, but while I am taking gen ed. classes, I work at a dog kennel/daycare. I spend all day in a totally lax environment playing with up to 20 dogs on any given day. I love it so much, it's not like work at all, and I get paid more than I have ever made before. :p

I'm a dog groomer, it's not too bad. I like it for now, but it's not my career. I make more than enough to live off of in 3 days, so I go to school full time. I'm earning a BA in Business and Accounting.

I'm a vet tech.
It is an ok job, as I love animals. It can be tiring though, as I work long shifts (9 - 9 1/2 or longer hours each day) and we aren't allowed breaks besides lunch, nor to sit down or lean on things.

my 1st real paying job was working at arby's in the drive thru!
Then i went to college and worked various odd jobs in retail and hospitality while in school. Then when i graduated with my degree in criminology i worked for the state of florida and used my degree...i worked on correcting criminal records and helped people with criminal records get back on track and find jobs/housing and not get in trouble again...i got bored with that. not to mention i got tired of dealing with felons who would end right back in jail no matter how hard we tried to screw their heads back on straight.
so i left the state and my tiny cubicle to work with animals. now i work at an animal shelter. i work with animals in jail and i work to get them back on track...help them find homes and sometimes even employment (farm dogs, barn cats, police dogs, service dogs
) most of my inmates do not come back!
the only 2 parts i hate about my job is 1) mean people 2)euthanasia...it's a part of the job but if only people were more responsible i would not have to do that part of my job. too many animals on death row because there are not enough homes for them all...please spay and neuter!

VERY COOL! And when I checked out the link, I saw that I am a little near you - Long Island and I think I dropped off a bird there once, long ago (probably 1997). {someone else did the phone call etc. I just said I'd drive there.}
I am a middle school science teacher. I have a 4 year degree in Psychology- I actually did my thesis with rats. I considered Veterinary medicine, so I took a lot of Science classes. I love teaching though. I have a 5 day weekend for Memorial Day :-).

You guys are having a night hike at Caumsett? My fifth grade graduation overnight trip was to Caumsett (I still have the goofy blue shirt with kids hanging off the word CAUMSETT). I think the building we stayed in was condemned a few years later.
Until today, I was a barista. I made coffee 40 hours a week. It was a blast. But now I'm unemployed, start classes next week (I think), and will hopefully be teaching in September.

Currently I am a Park Aide Guide for a local county park. It's called the Great Basin Adventure Park, it's basically a little outdoor park. There's a petting zoo, pony rides, log ride, a mine the kids can go through, a dinosaur play park, and a discovery room. It's fun. This is my third season working here, and I haven't left yet. It's a great experience. I started working when I was about 15-almost 16 years old.
Before this job I was a full time nanny for my aunt. I've watched my cousin grow from about 5 months old until a year, and now they're moving back to WA. So it's very upsetting that he is moving. And I hate to talk about them moving because it makes me want to cry.
I also babysit and dogsit.

Im a regional field operations manager in the telecommunications industry. I also manage the company warehouse and all the inventory as well as the purchasing agent for the entire company. Ive also been known to go in the field and take care of trouble tickets.
Its a non stop job, non stop stress. My husband also works for the same company hes in charge of their IT department. Everyone says I have too much to do. I know it myself and it shows. Nothing I get done is 100% the way it needs to be but it gets done. I am slowly getting people in place to take some of the tasks on their own. Right now I feel I basically suck but every one thinks Im doing great. I feel like Im working by the seat of my pants ready to crash and burn.
I have to say I love it though. Some days I want to run and hide but for the most part I really like the challenge.
And best of all I get to wear levis and t-shirts to work.

I'm a veterinarian (for all of a week now!). I'm headed off to an internship here in a few weeks. My first job was at a putt-putt course- the best part was making the cotton candy, and the free putt-putt. That lasted all of one month one summer. Then I started working at the vet clinic and never looked back! The only other job I had was as a student worker in the neuroscience/stem cell lab at school. Got to work with rats (I had rats before I started working there), and learned tons of cool stuff. It carried me through my senior year of vet school where I had to spend nearly all my waking hours at the teaching hospital. I have a month off (which I am half-way through) and then I'll continue into my internship where I'll work an ungodly amount of hours in a referral small animal hospital that also does some wildlife. Ultimate career goal is to be a veterinary dentist that specializes in exotics and zoo animals!

I'm currently a part-time vet assistant (though I do
exactly
the same thing the tech does...just for less money). I also have a pet sitting business, and I'm getting my bachelor's in nursing from Clemson University, if anyone knows where that is! The university's the only thing that puts upstate SC on the map.

School was over this week, so today is the first day the pools are open, thus her first day back on the job. She's also just recently got her drivers license, so she can FINALLY drive herself to work!!
I hear you on that!
I'm a "Business Analyst" working tier 2 support for a scientific distribution company, in the Information Services department. Means when one of our (236) computer systems does something unexpected, and the help desk doesn't know what to do, it lands on my desk (or one of my other four team members' desks). Mostly I tell the users what they messed up, or pass the problem to the developers to fix.
Mu first job was sales - of wigs. I got fired because they refused to pay me for the time between "store closing" and when I actually left (after clean-up, etc). Not their official reason, but that's what it was...
I've also worked as a promo clerk (tallying store receipts for bonus points, before the computers did that), other sales jobs, a brief stint at Mc Donalds, staple-puller (officially, "document prep") for an insurance company, graphic artist (I still do some artwork, just not as FTE), systems tester, and programmer/analyst. Not to mention babysitting and pet sitting, paid and otherwise...

staple-puller (officially, "document prep") for an insurance company,
Another one of those odd jobs that charges $45 to the customer
It made me remember that I used to be a stripper............................at a bank.
If the coders couldnt read the bottom of a check I ran it through a machine that stuck a white tape across the bottom and someone else keyed in the numbers again. Not something anyone would see anymore because of the electronic checking.
I was in high school and loved telling everyone I worked downtown as a stripper. The looks were just priceless
Unfortunately, a few werent suprised.

This is such an interesting thread. I'm glad to see so many people who really enjoy their job; and I sympathise with the people who don't - I've been there.
I work as an extra in films and tv. Because I live on my own, and very frugally, I earn just about enough to get by, most of the time. I'm getting two or three days a week at the moment, but I've had some really quiet patches, which can be difficult. My aim is to earn some money from my art as well (I do children's book - style illustrations and greetings card designs). I have lots of free-time on film sets, sitting around, waiting to be used in the scene, so I get lots of drawing and painting done while I'm being paid to be there!
I've worked on all the Harry Potter films (though only been visible in the first one); Finding Neverland; Gosford Park, to name some of the larger ones, and lots of UK tv: Eastenders, Holby City, Spooks (MI5).
I've been doing this for eight years and I really enjoy it.
My favourite jobs are stand-in jobs: on some larger productions they hire someone who is the same build and colouring as the actress, whose job is to 'stand-in' during technical rehearsals so the camera and lighting can be finalised. Usually these jobs involve working on the whole shoot, from beginning to end, so that means a guaranteed period of work, sometimes months at a time. I always get treated like part of the crew on these jobs - ie, much better than when I'm an extra! Unfortunately, there are just not enough of those jobs around, but because I know lots of the crew members now, and a few actors, when I go on set as an extra, I usually meet a few friends on the production side of things that I can hang out with.

Forkyfork....Do you work for American Telephone and Telegraph too?
I work for the world's largest telecommunications company. Officially my title is Sales Retention Specialist. I assist our small business customers with their telecommunication needs - wireless, internet and land lines.
I recently started after working in a call center for a check processing company (which I like to call the 7th circle of hell) for crap money. Honestly, I love my new job - and I get paid more than twice what I made before.
My very first job was at McDonald's, followed shortly thereafter by waiting tables at Tuby Ruesday
When I went to college in Chicago, I worked at McDonald's again and the next year at school I worked on campus for Campus Security.
I tell ya one thing...Making enough money to move out at age 21, after paying off your car....wonderful thing. I can even afford to go back to school!

I have three jobs at the moment:
Job 1: Mom. Been doing that almost sixteen years now and so far nobody's fired me!
Job 2: Asst. Editor/Proofreader, and now Receptionist. We publish poems and short stories written by kids (K-12). I love my job most days and only want to slap people stupid once in a while. I just moved up to the front office, so I'm not really doing the editing and reading so much. I also take home typing on a contract basis.
Job 3: Cashier at one of the two main home improvement stores. I like it, too. Mostly I like the extra paycheck when it comes to feeding to ravening horde responsible for Job 1.
My very first job was as a babysitter when I was twelve. That job also took me up into the Shoshone National forest to live in a tent for a month. Loved it! My first real job that the IRS cared about was as a Lifeguard/Swimming Instructor at the YMCA. Little kids I taught to swim are now married with kids of their own. Good grief!

Right now, my full time employment is pissing off NY state insurance agents - tho' it's really called NY Compliance or Regulations 60 and 74
Translation - they send in their paperwork that NY state requires, I review it, and tell them they are wrong. It's quite a bit more than that - but it's not really easy to explain.
Other jobs - I've worked many, many years in vet offices and lord I'm glad I don't now. Corn detassling, cattle round up, grape picking. Not much really. Petsitting still off and on, and election service. Plus way too much with the Democratic party on multiple levels, but that's called volunteering

I work as a relay operator (my ip relay) for people who are deaf/hard of hearing. Mostly it's little kids prank calling their friends. I'm getting laid off as of July 8th, but I must admit I HATE MY JOB.
Just trying to make it through until my last day so I can get my severance payment.
Then I'll spend the summer doing some art.
Being the brother to a deaf woman, I'd just like to say thank you for the work you;ve done. IMHO, you relay operators don't get enough thanks and recognition.
Me, I work in the IT dept for a "Customer Service Center" (aka warehouse, distribution center) for Rite Aid.
