Some of you may remember that I've been having trouble finding an apartment for my husband, the rats, and me.  The place we looked at and fell in love with was about 650 square feet, which is nearly 300 square feet less than the place we're living at now.  In preparation for the move, Devin (my husband) and I began purging stuff.  It's not a big deal, because we had too much stuff and I really like a more minimalistic lifestyle.  I've gotten rid of about three huge 33 gallon bags full of old clothes, plus knick-knacks, never-used kitchen things that were wedding gifts, etc.  Well, the apartment fell through.  They were the ones who wanted $750 in fees for the rats and I told them exactly what they could do with that mess.  There weren't any other apartments in that area that were of the quality and security of this place, so I started looking at houses.  I saw a few, but, to make a long story short, the ones in Memphis that I could afford weren't in a particularly good area, and the ones in the area where I wanted to be were all HUGE (really, do I need 5 bedrooms and 6 baths for just us and the rats?  No!) and about $1000/month more than I could afford.  Then, in frustration, I started looking at houses in the area where I already live.  It's safe, but we were really looking for something that would make our drive shorter.  I found a beautiful house that was within our budget, but it is probably between 1200 and 1500 square feet!  All that purging was for nothing and we actually don't have enough stuff to fill up this house!  Alright, you've read mine.  Now I want to hear your curveball stories!

I go through my things about every year and throw away stuff that I don't use anymore.  I think I have too much stuff now but there are just some things I can't part with.

Now you'll have a house you can fill up with new stuff.

After living 6 yrs in our apt on 3rd floor (850 sf, with cats and weasels...this was BR- Before Rattus), we were informed, by phone, on Dec 23, that our landlords no longer owned the house, and we had until Jan  to move...This, of course, was after they had accepted Jan rent.

New Year's Eve...out of desperation because every apt we looked at wanted either 1st/last/SecDep...or nearly 50/animal (Hrmmm 3 cats+10 ferrets*50.00= I don't think so) for an additional security deposit, we went to a Realtor...and were handed 10 houses that fit our criteria...sooo we looked at them on NYD, and only the last two were acceptable...But, one needed a new furnace, and the bank wouldn't add the cost to the mortgage. (Grrrr) so we applied for the last one...and were approved. Due to the company holding the papers on the old apt having accepted Jan rent, they were legally bound to allow us to stay until we found a place, within reasonable time. So, we bought this house, along with it's 1350 sf, and postage stamp land (.3 acres) of which all are build on a hillside. Moved in Mar 7th, after all the fix up work had been completed. ( I could have had all the work done by Feb 1st, myslef) and we've been here since.

Oh, to add a couple more curves, my ex-wife decided she could no longer deal with my sons and shipped them to me...as well as my sister's two daughters coming to stay with us. *Sigh* and we thought we had all the room we'd need...

I guess the extra boarder thing is contageous.  Hopefully you didn't have to drive around at 1 in the morning looking for yours!
