She's 5 weeks.  She is pretty small and really shy.  My babies are 4 weeks and about the same size.  They are sooo much less skittish than this one though.  She'll need lots of attention.

She is absolutely adorable! 5 weeks is so young. She's probably in shock after being taken from her mommy and siblings. She has plenty of time to warm up to you and I'm sure you guys will bond quickly. =]

I felt bad because she was bringing the whole litter to Animal City (a pet store near me)  I feel bad that I couldn't take more but it was the only female she had.  The rest were males and I can't get them neutered.  I still have 5 babies here that haven't got homes yet also.  At least the pet store they went to puts them out front for pets.  They do sell feeders but they are kept in a back room that they breed themselves.  Any dumbos or litters that people bring to them get put out front to sell for pets.  I have her by herself right now but had a question.  If I know the rats she has are healthy do I really need to quarantine her?  She only has the mom and one other female.  The mom is young and the other is about 8 months old.  Both are healthy, no sneezing or skin issues.  The baby is 5 weeks old, I don't really want to leave her in a cage in the basement if I don't have to.  I kinda thought she would benefit from being with the babies that I have since they are so friendly.  Any suggestions?

Aww, she's a cutie!  Is she blue or mink?  I can't tell.

It may be a good idea to leave her on her own for a bit longer.  She'd be happier with the babies, but you don't really want to worry about them getting sick.  If you know her medical history and (and the others in the house with her from where you got her.) the person who had her doesn't interact with other rats from pet stores, etc, then I think you can waive the QT, but I'm not sure.  There'd be a risk involved, so it'd just have to be about what you feel most comfortable with.

I'm not sure about whether she is blue or mink.  She is not as gray as my babies so I was thinking she may be mink.  The girl I got her from has no one sick and hadn't handled any other rats so I think it will be ok.  I may let her in with the babies tomorrow if all seems ok.

In that first picture she looks really mink to me, but you may not be able to tell until she moults.  I thought my blaze boy was blue at first, but he's really a kind of.. blueish mink I guess?

Keep the pictures coming.

I am probably going to have the minority opinion here but I would put her with the other babies. If she is in your house, q-tine is broken anyway. If you know the person she came from and they have not brought home any new rats in the last 3 weeks... I would just feel terrible leaving a baby that was just weaned all by herself Sad Your babies will teach her how great it is to love us humans!!

I was hoping someone would say that.  I just wanted kind of a 2nd opinion that it was probably ok.  I know that some will not agree but she seems so lonely.  Maybe I'll get her and put her with some friends!  I'll let everyone know how it goes! Smiley

She's a darling!  And yes, I'd say intro her sooner rather than later. Knowing where she came from, to me, makes a big difference.
