 well as if my week couldn't get worse with the sudden death of Apollo. One of the females i took in has a tumor on her chest, things have just gone from bad to worse

 I knew there was a chance of this because most of my first rats are from Petco or petsmart..this is one of the reasons i decided to start a younger group. Most of my adult females are over a year, and tumor are common  i start my new job at my vet Today I;ll talk to them about it

When you have larger colonies you will always have something going on unlike a person who only has 2-3 rats.  Its how it works.

Very true!  I max out at ten, and we always have something going on with someone even at that "low" number.

I basically decided to keep a girl i rescued and made that into a group of 4.  whether it works or not, having the younger rats there at a time when i am down helps with the pain and shock of the loss. I know older rats are going to have problems and it will get hard and depressing but than you bring out this young playful baby and it helps. In the future i am not going have this large of  a number maybe max out at 8 or even go lower. In till that time i will take what comes and try to stay strong. I wouldn't trade any of my rats for the world and never think twice about keeping everyone. I still miss Morgan, even though she got me good, i am happy she got a good home and she is happy.
