I have a pet Mouse question, if someone would be so kind to help me  Smiley

Sadly I'm badly allergic to Ratties, so I thought I'd ask if having pet mice is possible if I have this bad allergy to ratties?

People have told me it is actually the ratties urine that people are allergic to and I have to agree, because I even tried being owned by hairless ratties and I'm allergic to them as well...

sooooooo, my question is this...is there any more pocket pet lovers out there that are badly allergic to Ratties but are able to be owned by Mice with out any allergy issues?

Please help this pocket pet lover out with her question  Blue Dumbo Smile

Sincerely,
The Ever so grateful Bren   Grin

Mouse urine is much more potent than rat urine and are likely to cause more of an allergy issue than the rat are. I've had both and when I had mice my allergies were definitely worse after handling the mice. Not so much hives, but actual breathing difficulty and itchy/watery eyes.

So, does that go for female mice as well? The reason why I ask that is because someone else on the pocket pets forum had mentioned that the male mice are very dirty, but the female are very clean...or is that not going to make a difference?

Thanks for your help =)

Actually mice are very clean in general. Male mice have more of an odor to them and they do mark up their territory. Some females do this as well but you don't often hear of that.

Just as in rats, some people are more allergic to males than females. The same is true for mice. I had issues with both genders.

That, coupled with the fact that mice are not exactly very interactive (for the most part) with their humans made me decide to stick with rats.

Perhaps look into guinea pigs?  or ferrets?

Okee dokee, thank you again, Melina  Grin I've decided to steer clear of mice as well

And thank you for your suggestion, KoalaLou2...actually I've decided to go with a Bunnie (Holland Lop) I've already joined a couple Rabbit forums/groups and have started on my Bun Bun research adventure.

Thank you again for your help
