Fonzi, my ferret **UPDATE** YAY!!

Ok, My ferret Fonzi was adopted about 3 weeks ago from a Petco donation. he was fur and bones and wasnt eating at all, he was freaking me out. so i took him to the vet, we got him an xray, nothing. we decided to put him then on Clavamox (not sure what we were treating then) and that didnt work. we then put him on Maloxx, no luck. now we did a barium series on him (a series of different xrays) nothing thank God. So currently hes on Amoxicillin, Flagyl, and Pepto. I just dont know what im going to do if these dont work, keeps me up at night thinking what will happen next. everytime i think about Fonzi, my sweet baby boy, tears start comin'. he hates the flagyl and everytime i give it to him it makes me shudder watching him try to spit it out and all. ooo please pray for my wittle baby ferret... hes so lethargic and throws up and has strange feces, please pray for him...

Poor guy! It sounds like you're doing everything you can for him. I hope you're able to figure out what's wrong, and I hope he feels better soon. I know mysterious illnesses like that can be very scary and frustrating.

unfortunaly no cuz it was a 'donation'... but does anyone know what it could be other than ECE and Helicobactor? Blockage was ruled out, ulcer was ruled out, i cant think of anything else with the sypmtoms he has!
-lethargic
-vomiting occasionally
-odd feces occasionally {green, mucousy, bloody}
Thanks

Is he allergic to something, maybe? Do ferrets get hairballs (although they'd probably show up on an x-ray?)
Good luck!

Oh no poor guy!
Why was it a "donation"? Was it a ferret for sale that was sick so they couldn't sell him? Or was he supposed to be for adoption and just happend to be sick? I'm just curious.
I don't have any advice or any clue what it could be, but I wanted to wish you luck.
If it helps any- my ferrets sleep all day too, and they are perfectly healthy (just saw the vet today for rabies shots, and the vet complimented me on thier health!) But they sleep most of the day by nature.

Thanks everyone...
Bonnie-he was a ferret that someone didnt want (i dont know why they didnt want him, because i heard two different stories so im thinkin they didnt want him because he was sick
) and gave the 2 ferrets (Fonzi and his other, healthy sis Zodiac) to Petco so Petco could adopt them out.
He sleeps ***unusually*** long, and VERYYY lethargic, doesnt get up too much, doesnt run around like the others when its playtime, and when i do let him out to play he vomits so i dont let him play outside the cage anymore... The others sleep a lot too, that is the nature, *but* Fonzi is just 'different' i cant explain it excapt for the word 'lethargic' Thanks Bonnie...Thanks everyone

FANTASTIC!
That HAS to be a good sign, right??? Maybe he was just really depressed, and needed a good home to feel better? I hope he continues to improve!

Hi, I'm not sure what it is that could be wrong with him, but I have a suggestion as far as the meds go... Try mixing them in with some canned or softened food, baby food, duck soup, ferretone or something. I have a sick little girl now, and she's getting handfed A/D (hills perscription diet), so I just mix her meds into the food. She has no idea.. and I don't feel bad about it.. so it works out for everyone.

If he was adrenal, you'd probably see some classic signs, such as hair loss on butt & tail or shoulders and he'd have a funny smell to him. Kinda corn-chippy. All adrenal ferrets smell different than their healthy counterparts. Vomiting & green mucousy poops are not signs of an adrenal ferret. You could go to the vet & have him do a smear for coccidia or giardia. ECE poops are unbelieveably smelly. Are Fonzie's poop really stinky? Sounds like you've got the right meds for him, so hopefully it should clear up. Sometimes it takes a weaker ferret longer to respond to the meds than a more robust one. What's his story before he came into your loving hands? What on earth did his previous owner do (or not do) that got him so ill? Poor little guy. Give him smoochies for me.
