SERIOUSLY!  I think we ALL enjoy eating certain foods that some people cringe at!  LOL  So what would be your strange food?

I have a couple.  First, I love Veggie Panini.  It is awesome!  It's got artichokes, spinach, peppers & a bunch of other goodies with cheese!  No matter HOW many times I've had it, my hubby NEVER gets used to it.  He is always giving me these looks like "I can't believe she's eating THAT!"  LOL

Second - I ADORE jalapeno stuffed Spanish olives!  Hubby DOES like those, but a few friends I have think I'm nuts if they see me eating them.  THEY ARE GREAT!   Hyper

Third - DROOL!  Sauteed Mushrooms!  Now, hubby AND both kids LOVE these, but this is another thing I cannot eat around certain friends because they think I'm daft!  LOL.  Whatever.  They don't know what they're missing!

YOUR TURN!!!!!!!!!

Ah, the kids at school used to cringe when I brought pickled beef tongue for lunch.  If you can find a place that does it up right, it's delicious. My dad can whip up a decent tongue, but I've never had it quite as good as Woolgrower's, a little Basque joint back in Bakersfield.

F. McLintock's deep-fried turkey nuts are good enough to make me want to move back to California. Crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and oh-so-good with their salsa.

I never thought of sauteed mushrooms as a strange food. Growing up, those were mandatory for a steak dinner. Steak, baked potato, sauteed mushrooms (heavy on the garlic, thankyouverymuch).

Beef Tongue?  I used to love Sheeps Tongues when I was a kid. Jellied.  Made great sandwitches.

Is that weird?

What about Roast Sunflower Seeds in Soy Sauce?

I adore raw spinach leaves.  Most anything raw actually.  Fresh, raw veggies.  Yum.
Not really that weird, but my omnivorous friends think so.

Umm...Sushi comes to mind.

I'll try just about anything, and I almost always love it!  I've lost all perspective of what's wierd and what's not since my boyfriend only eats fast food. >.<

Raisins? Grapes, more like it. Freakin' apricots.

I eat tomatoes like they were fruit - just take one out of the fridge and eat it.

Cookie and cheese sandwiches.

Sushi doesn't count - I live in NYC, and we actually have fast food sushi here.

My wife will put orange juice in her tea instead of milk.

They are.   Wink

In my supermarket's "British" food section, I saw a little jar of Marmite for sale last week.  I ran.  Fast.

I like to eat mayonaise, ketchup and cucumbers together.  Mmmmm....

And borscht.  It's not weird, but many people seem to think so.

Garbage Plate. Grin

http://www.geocities.com/garbageplates/

*happy Nick Tahou dance*

That site lists all kinds of places locally that offer some form of a "plate," but for me it's Nick's or nothing. The two photos on that page look NOTHING like what you would get at Nick's... even _I_ think they look gross. LOL!

Sadly, my own tribute to the plate, which is linked from that page, is no more. I've e-mailed them, asking them to remove the link. *sigh* Such a sad day...

This site has a better photo:

Nick Tahou's Garbage Plate

Grin

And some testimonials

Quote
What is in that stuff. I have craved a Garbage Plate ever since.

I also like to eat cold Rice-A-Roni, but I imagine that would not be as weird to some of you as a garbage plate might be... Grin

The strange food ideas are all ones I've gotten from my grandmother. My favorite of these is hotdogs and milk...sauteed bite sized pieces of hotdogs put in a bowl of cold milk. It's really delicious! I was told that I also used to love bananas cooked into scrambled eggs when I was younger...I haven't been able to try that now though  Undecided
Every sandwich I eat has to have pickles and potato chips in them...especially the Ruffles with cheese and onion (or something like that) although otherwise, I don't even eat potato chips.

Menudo--Mexican tripe soup. Cures everything from hangovers to leprosy.

I also eat jalapeņo or habaņero stuffed olives--yummy!

Hot sauces--I have close to thirty different sauces, and my gf won't let me buy any more until I empty some out. Weirds out my friends when I read the ingredient list on a bottle of hot sauce, pour some into a spoon, and taste it. If you can find Pure Hell hot sauce, I highly recommend it; Frontera hot sauce is a rather mild hot sauce, with some really complex flavors in it, and is *very* hard to find.

While visiting Boston, I saw two sauces:  Colon Blow, and The Hottest F***ing Sauce.  The names made me laugh!

Geez this thread made me feel fickle.  It also made me feel a little sick.

The strangest thing I eat is mayonaise, not miracle whip (gag), and lettuce sandwiches.

Also David seems to think my salting all my fruit is weird, my whole family does it, that's not weird is it?

Just for reference yes any kind of tongue is strange.

Kmw:  I love borscht as well, specially cold winter nights.  mmmm.  Lots of salt, lots of pepper.

Well my family doesn't eat weird foods, just tasty foods Wink

I like to put butter and gravy on my mashed potatoes and yorkshire puddings.

Curry/masala on anything!

Fries w/ ketchup, vinegar and gravy (lots of pepper)

Fries w/ gravy and cheese curds (poutine!)

fries w/ mayo.

grilled cheese sandwhiches and dill pickles. (unbelievably good)

Here's an odd one:

My dad like Miracle Whip and peanut butter sandwiches.

He also likes onion sandwiches.
