Title: Help found a mouse in NJ
Post by: rattastic725 on November 23, 2007, 12:37:44 PM
I found a mouse being "played with" by a neighbors cat and I think it has a broken leg.  I am located in NJ if anyone can help.  I have him in a box on the porch because I dont want him to get my rats and other animals sick but i gave him some socks to cuddle with.  Can anyone help me please!?!?  I have an apartment so there is not really any separate room to put him/her in.  It has high energy and wants to jump out of the box but before its leg was dragging.

As I understand it, diseases are species specific, so he probably can't get your rats sick (unless you have pet mice, that might be different,) but don't quote me on that.  My cat had caught a mouse and broke it's leg.  I kept it for a couple weeks in a 10 gallon tank, gave it plenty of food and water, then let it go in a corn field.  Leg injuries seem to heal pretty well on their own, from what I've read.  Though if you were to let him go now, his chances of survival are low, since he can't run as fast  :-\

Maybe someone else can be of more help.

Rats and mice share lots of diseases and parasites. It is very smart of you to keep the little guy away from your pets.

If the leg is just strained, it's likely that it will heal on its own. If it is broken, it will most likely be fatal. Is this a wild mouse?
