I work at a nature preservation and in turn work with a petshop that provides us at low cost with supplies like feeder fish, crickets, etc.  This petshop has five Degus in one tank, about 1 year old, I believe all male (they haven't been reproducing), seem to be in good physical condition; no hair loss, clear eyes, no sniffles, etc.  They are no longer allowed to keep the Degus as they don't have the proper permits for them.  The owner of this shop has asked me to try and find homes for them.  As they are all very bonded to one another, I'd love to see them go in one group.  I understand that this may not be possible, and in this case they'd have to go in a group of two and three.  I'd let a single go to the right home with other degus.

I'm located in Westchester, NY and would be more than happy to drive a distance to good homes for these guys.  I honestly don't know what will happen to them if they don't find homes soon.  The best possible outcome if I don't find them homes is they'll live in the 10 gallon tank they're currently in until they die.  Please contact me for more information.  Any questions I'll do my best to answer.

Cute is not the word for them. We are the ones who took in 4 of them...and ended up with 24. See, degus aren't sexually mature until they are 9 mos old...them gestate for 3 months...Soo, when we got the 4 "boys", we heard that the 5th had given birth to 6 pups...A week later(Memorial day weekend), the first litter of 9 arrived (Lost on by day two to birth problem), a week after that comes number 2, for 9 more (Again, we lost one by day 2)...and thought we were safe until week 4, when the smallest female (We were hoping she was a he) gave us 5 more. Sadly, we lost the 3rd mom (Laurel) when her pups reached 4 weeks to a tumor.

The remaining 24 are happy, warbling, playful little bundles.

Hi, I am looking to adopt a female or two for a female I have already. Her cagemate died and I need to find her a new buddy. If anyone has a female or two I can adopt, please let me know, thanks.
