Can Gerbils co-exist peacefully with other rodents? Say hamsters?

I have a trio of old Syrian hamsters and they pretty much mind their own business together with no problems, I was wondering if I would be stirring up trouble if I add a couple of Gerbils into the bin? The hamsters pretty much sleep most of the time anyway.

Don't hit me please if this was a stupid question. I just want to be sure about all this. help

It's never a good idea to house different rodents with each other.   In general, hamsters are totally solitary animals, so adding a new species wouldn't be a good idea at all.

Another vote for it's a bad idea. Gerbils are pretty territorial anyway, it's hard enough to find a group of gerbils that will happily stay together for life, let alone throwing another species into the mix. Plus gerbils are very active, and would stress out the more sedentary hamsters.

Syrians should never be housed together. Even if they seem to be getting along they are living very stresful lives. And yes hamster can live to be pretty old in some cases and still be completly unhealthy and stressed. Please sepearte them for their sake.
