I'm currently a proud mom to 2 beautiful rats. I had syrian hamsters when I was younger. I've never had dwarf hamsters and just last week I became mom to 6!! My friends kept their male and female dwarf hamsters (campbell I think) in the same tank. They ended up having 6 babies in their first litter, all survived. They then had their 2nd litter a little over 3 weeks ago. I think there were 5 babies that were eaten by dad (as I was the one who disturbed them Sad No one had any idea they were there and it was my first time meeting mom and dad)

My friends were moving and about to let these poorly taken care of animals outSIDE because they didn't want to take them with them. I hesitantly took them under my wing for some TLC. Luckily 2 had been given away so I was only stuck with 6, instead of 8. The first thing I did was put mom and daughters in one tank and boys and dad in another. Four girls (including mom) and 2 boys (including dad). I assume all the girls are pregnant since I read they are sexually mature at 4/5 weeks and I know the 2nd litter was born at least 2 weeks before I got them.

Anyway, when I did my daily rounds on all the animals, I picked up Mom hamster and she's very fat. I turned her over and I noticed that it looked like she was starting to birth or something. Her "area" was more open and looked almost bloody but instead of looking like liquid blood it was solid looking (baby maybe?). It's now been over 10 hours since then and there's no babies!

Can someone give me some reliable info on dwarf hamster pregnancies, birth, and what I need to do? I don't really want Mama hamster to die, I hope she's not stuck or something. Thanks for reading and in advance for any info.

Mom had her babies at some point last night. Everything is going well so far. I'm hoping she doesn't eat them! I picked up her hut (where she usually is sleeping) and saw babies! I'm hoping picking up her hut didn't stress her out too much. We'll see.
