hey!! ok, so about a week and a half ago i bought 2 mice from a petstore and one of course turned out to be pregnant. ive looked on some of the websites ive seen mentioned here and i googled a bit to find out what i should do. and i read that its best to leave them alone up to 3 days after they have babies. I could tell that Sadie was gonna have them pretty soon because theres no way she couldve gotten any bigger. anyways, today when i went to feed her i noticed that she was back to normal size. so im guessing she had them. but the problem is, i havent heard any kind of squeaking or rustling around like i thought i would. i tried to look into the house through the glass but she has it so stuffed with paper towels i cant see anythin. is it normal not to hear any squeaking coming from them? i really want to open the house up a little and see if theyre ok or not but i dont know if thats a good idea since youre supposed to leave them alone. what do you guys think?

and while im at it, im gonna ask a second question. i left the second mouse in there to be a *nanny* like ive seen mentioned. but does that usually help? or is it best just to leave Sadie by herself?
ps. if none of this makes sense.. its because its wayyy to late for me to say anything intelligent. i should be in bed  Yellow Cute Laugh

First off.....make sure the other mouse IS a female and not a young male or your recently new mom mouse will (or probably is already) get pregnant.
If you got the two girls from the same tank and they appear to be bonded, just leave them together...female mice are social and will help raise each other's babies. If you think the mom is being protective or the other mouse appears 'scared/unsure, then separate to be on the safe side.

As for checking on the babies...i'm a big fan of leaving them be for a few days...but if you feel you need to check on them, DO NOT touch the babies themselves. Make sure they have milk bands if you do check on them.

For a first time mom it is best to leave her 'nanny' in with her, but as LastEchoes mentioned..make sure she is female!

SINCE she is new to you..if she has the nest pretty protected I wouldn't bother the nest for the first day or two. After she settles in you can check in on them. There really is no point in checking them right away, because even if there are problems, there's not much you can do at this young age.

Having said that... with my females I checked the babies and handled them on the first day. However, I had the females for a few months by that time and we were comfortable with each other. Never had any issues there.

 Good luck!

hi!! Thanks for answering, but i kinda freaked out for nothing. When i woke up this morning i heard some squeaking. So im just gonna let her do her thing for a couple days before i check. And the other one is DEFINATELY a female. Ive checked more than once after i got them just to be sure. The other one (i havent figured out a name for her yet) seems pretty cool with it all. Ive seen Sadie leave the house to eat and drink more than her. haha, so im guessing she's being a good nanny. I'm kinda nervous to check on them because im afraid of how many she had!! lol. I was hoping for like 4 or 5, but she was HUGEE so i doubt that. And im hoping theyre all girls so i can keep them all, but i know thats not gonna happen either. That would be nice though. Id keep the boys too, but i dont have nearly enough room to have separate cages for when/if they start fighting. Anyways.. thanks!!!  Grin
