Can anyone tell me what they feed their gerbils?  I have read that people feed their gerbils the Suebee's Mix that they feed their rats but put extra seeds in?   We currently feed our two gerbils the seed mix for gerbils from the petstore, Suebee's mix and the Harlan Teklad lab blocks that we feed our rats.  Also fruit and veggies!  Last night I bought raw, unsalted pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds to add to my Suebee's.

Any suggestions or ideas?

THANK YOU!!

I personally would never buy my pets anything from walmart. They don't have high quality pet foods over there.

I feed my gerbil the Suebees mix with bird seed added, and Mazuri lab blocks. And she also gets chicken bones to gnaw on. (She likes those)

Thank you!  I added the seed mix I had to the Suebee's and when that is gone I will get some bird seed to add.  Can they have flax seed.

Chicken bones!  What a great idea!

I like the hay and corn cob suggestions!  Are these corn cobs specifically for gerbils?  I wonder if my rats will like them, too!

Thank you so much!

My foster gerbils get "Gerri Gerbil" mix by Carefresh and "Bonanza" by LM Farms. Problem is, they only pick out what they want to eat so they don't get a balanced nutrition. Gerri Gerbil has alfalfa pellets in it that the gerbils won't touch. It's just a heavy filler so you pretty much get screwed. Now I found out that Oxbow makes pellets for hamsters and gerbils. My vet will give me a few tomorrow to try it out. If they eat it, I'll feed that and just a little bit of the mix. You can order it from the Oxbowhay website.

The suebee's mix is a lot cheaper and healthier.  I spend about $25 bucks to make the mix and it last me 2, sometime longer (depends on the season: when hot they eat less when cold they eat more) to feed 5 rats and 2 mice.

I recommend you check it out, because the mix you are feeding most likely has Ethoxyquin in it (http://petcaretips.net/ethoxyquin.html) and most likely has dried corn in it which can contain toxic mold or moth larva.

Dreamchaser, what do you pet in your Suebee's for seeds?  Do you put birdseed in it?  If so, what kind?  Thank you!!

I have never owned gerbils (illegal in CA) so I do not add seed to the Suebee's mix.  However, there is a homemade mouse mix that adds a lot of different seeds to it if you would like to check that link out

Paul Goodman's Homemade mouse mix: http://mouseranch.com/FYI/diet.html

also there is a member of this community and the liverjournal ratties community, who owns gerbils and uses the suebee's mix  on top of another mix.  You can read about it at her website

pet info packets: http://www.petinfopackets.com/gerbils/gerbilinfopacket.html

I hope this helps :3
