Mouse cage Question
«
on:
May 13, 2008, 06:05:20 PM »
My current mice live in a 10 gallon tank which is enough room for them as they are both pretty small right now,and I noticed that some of you hang things from the lid of the cage, like rings, and hammocks and such,so I wanted to spiff up their cage a bit by hanging some stuff too. How do you guys hang things like that?
(edited: oops! I meant 10 gallon tank)

I didn't really expect to get an immediate response, but I sure would like one! I guess the Pocket Pets section isn't as popular as the Rats one..

How many mice are in the 10 gallon?
To hang hammocks and such, you can use paper clips or safety pins. I use bits of wire that I can easily bend to make hooks.

I use a little bit of plain dental floss to hang things through the mesh of the lid. Some of my tanks have really fine mesh, and I don't want to tear it up by trying to poke paper clips and things like that through it. I've also thought of using pipe cleaners on the cage with the bigger mesh, but I'm not sure if those could hurt the mice if they somehow get them off, so I haven't tried it.

Two in a 10 gal. is enough room. You can add more levels to it, as well, using plastic soap dishes with suction cups (I got mine from Ace Hardware in the bathroom aisle.)

Ok thanks! I'll see what I can find and if it'll fit in the cage well enough..

I suggest using suction cups to hang hammocks in the cage as well.

Just a note:
My mice ended up chewing up and destroying the suction cups of my little shelf within a week
I ended up using zip-ties through the little holes in the soap dish/cup thing I bought and weaving them through the mesh aquarium lid and they have chewed the ties a little but have not been successful so far!
