Mister lost some fur so we took him to the vet. She did a skin scrape and unfortunately found demodex mites. All hamster apparently have them but their immune system keep them in check so something has to be going on to cause them to be problematic Sad

So she gave him some selemectin and I'm going back for bloodwork on Monday Tongue I'm hoping it's nothing serious, he's such a sweet hammy. Anyone have experience with this and hamsters? Also, please cross your fingers that it's nothing serious or that he is over whatever made the mites flair up and they just got out of hand.

Also, does anyone know any more frequented hamster forums I could post this in?

I think we are going to cancel the appointment for bloodwork as he seems to be growing his hair back and itching less. He also has less red skin. I will opt for the wait and few weeks with selemectin treatment to see. They just made a big deal about having to watch him realling closely for the sedative and I really don't want to risk his life if I don't have to.

If he starts to go downhill again or never gets 100% better I might do bloodwork then, we'll see.
