There was an accident (see above link) and now only one degu is available, my "failed foster."  If you have male degus and can provide him a home with others I would be grateful.  Otherwise he is to stay here with mine.  I WILL NOT adopt to anyone with only females or none at all.  Please don't ask.

If you are reading this ad then even if it's a month or two from now they weren't adopted yet.  I will tell you when they are gone.   There's a long story that goes with one of them, but here's the deal:

I had a "failed foster" degu.  Basically, the first animal I've ever taken on as a foster and had everything go wrong.  See, he was originally part of a pair.  While being brought here there was a freak accident and one of the degus managed to get free out onto a highway.  This was in the middle of january, and needless to say he was unrecoverable.  When my foster, his brother, arrived he was a terrified little guy all alone, and I realized I couldn't adopt him out this way, so I tried to integrate him into my colony.  It was pretty successful, however my alpha doesn't like him that much.  He also chews plastic, whereas my other two are totally fine in a FN because they only like lava blocks.  I learned this the hard way  one ferret nation pan down...

Anyways, I've been presented with an opportunity to foster another young male in need.  This one is a baby, though I haven't been told just how young. I am going to integrate him with my original foster and adopt them out as a pair, the way I had originally intended.   This male had the misfortune of being the only boy from a litter, and would otherwise be rehomed alone or with his sister.  I intervened, and the person has been very kind about it.  He will be brought to me tomorrow.

I've been told that this baby is very friendly.  My current foster came from a bad situation and is very people-shy.  He LOVES his wheel and is confident only as long as he has a paw on it.  He is fun to watch though and is very busy!  My friend has a pair of his sisters/cousins; they came around very easily but his experience getting here was very traumatic and we think that he needs a lot of TLC before he'll be normal.  I've gotten him to take treats from my hands and even let me stroke him a little.

I do not own a car so they MUST be picked up.  I am happy to send along a little Sunseed degu pellets with them.  I would prefer that you have your own cage because the one they will be in is one I use for a hospital/Quarantine/foster cage and it will be too small when they reach adult size so it would be temporary at best.  Degus are expensive to keep so if you cannot afford a proper cage then please do not apply.  Any questions, feel free to contact me! You can PM me or use my email mvigeantATstudentDOTumassDOTedu (replacing the capitols as necessary)

I will be asking you questions about basic degu care and also asking for the number of a vet in your area that treats degus.  Be prepared with this information before asking me, please!  It's never okay to adopt an animal you don't know about!  In the case of an exotic like a degu you never know what you're getting into!

I will add pics as soon as I get some batteries in my camera.

I now have the new guy.  He's young, and a little on the fat side due to being fed gerbil food ( ).  He is a sweetheart and is very tame.  Unlike my own personal 'goos you can pick him up and hold him, although he is shy with strangers.  Problem is, a degu tame for one person isn't always for another, but with a little bit of work so that he gets to know you, anyone whould be able to hold him as his original owner was doing.  It seems he's been handled since birth so he has little fear of people; just of new things in general.

He has a scar across his nose where his father attacked him.  It doesn't detract from his appearance at all.

I gave him a nice long bit of out time.  He liked teasing my cats.  So far he appreciates attention more than treats.  He likes just being talked to, but he won't let you touch him until he's used to you.  No biting at all, not even the normal test-nip.  Once he got used to my hand being in the cage he had no problems hopping onto it.  I still can't pick him up but I think it'll only take a day or two.  Intros will start shortly.  I'm in the bedding-switching stage.

I rather like the little guy.  I wish I could afford to keep them.
