Introducing the boys *PICTURE HEAVY*
«

Yesterday I adopted 4 little males from someone who adopted a "surprise" pregnant little girl. The female had 11 babies, 5 girls, 6 boys, all of them cute as a button. I have them housed currently in a large parrot cage (have no fear the bar spacing is 1/2 inch) that has been remodeled to suit the kids. They are currently nameless till I can come up with some names that go well together. They are adjusting well and very sweet little friendly guys for only being 4 weeks old. Well enough rambling and now for the pictures....

Acckk!!! Must have! Look at those faces. And it looks like you have a velveteen baby too!
They should get gangster names or cowboy names because they all look like little bandits. Like maverick, eldorado, john (as in john wayne), billy the kid....
I know. I'm corny.

Three of the boys have that curly hair like a rex but straight wiskers(brows are curly) so does that make them velveteen or rex or just little mutts ? I love them no matter what! They are starting to run to the door when I open their cage for some lovings

Aww! they are very cute little boys! I can not blame you for taking those boys in, heck I would have in a heart beat too. hehe I've only ever had two masked males and they were Bandit and Zorro. I'm sure you will come up with names for them in time. Congrats on the new additions!

I had sent you a PM (You probably can not receive them yet) To see where you got them. Did you get them from the person in Chicopee? I contacted her last night because I thought that may be where you got them. She was pretty rude to me because I have 8 rats already. Guess she doesn't need homes for them that badly. Love your little guys though, really cute!

Yes, I did get them from a gal in Chicopee. She only had a little girl left unspoken for when I had taken my boys. When I first started writing to her I had asked for 4 gals or 4 boys.....I ended up with the 4 boys as she is VERY nervous about adopting out females to people she does not know as she is scared that they will breed them. I am wondering if she was a little leery as you have both male and female ratties. I am sorry that she was rude to you though

We have been emailing back and forth all day. She finally believes that I am not a breeder or a hoarder. She only has one male left though so it wouldn't work for me anyway. I finally sent her pictures of my cage and rats. I only have one male and he is neutered which she didn't like that I had a neutered male.
She is just worried about someone bad adopting them. I understand but felt pretty awful when she was emailing me. She was bashing me pretty bad.

I am sorry that she was bashing you without even knowing you and the condition of your rattie kids! A lot of people have their thoughts and opinions on how animals should be cared and what should and shouldn't be done in the area of medical care. Personally there was a few things that I thought she should change but didn't think it was the time or place to be offering advice while I was adopting the boys. I do know that she does have good intentions and loves the babies as she was tearing up as I was taken them, but that is no excuse for being rude. Once again, I am sorry she made you feel awful as no matter how worried she is about finding them good home she needs to remember to treat people the way she would like to be treated.

Well, she should be happy you got your boys. They are totally adorable. I never would have even contacted her seeing she is sooo far away from me if I hadn't seen yours. Good luck with them

If your boys have curly hair or wavy hair and no curly whiskers, they're velveteen (sometimes referred to as poor rex- I like velveteen better
). If your boys have curly hair and curly whiskers, they're rex. Whatever they are, they are so darn cute. I love those masks. Haven't seen anything like that locally.
I don't mean to thread jack, but just so you can compare velveteen to rex, here are a few pics of my curly boys:
Cheerio and Chunk- Cheerio is on the right and has curly hair and curly whiskers, he looks like a shag rug, he's the rex. Chunk is on the left and has curly hair but not whiskers, and he's the velveteen!
Your babies may get more curl to their whiskers as they get older, Cheerio's sure did!

The girl just emailed me offering the last little girl. Now I have to decide whether to get her or not. She said she has a little broken heart blue mask. She sounds so cute.

I hear you are picking up the little girl on next Tuesday
If she is anything like my boys she is sure to be a little sweetheart. All of the boys are now letting me hold them without trying to plan their grand excape out of my hands!
